Can anyone here answer some questions about the production methods of aerosol cans? (particularly paint). I am currently doing a project that envolves them and i’d like to talk to someone about possible material/production alternatives. Thanks!
Aerosol can manufacturers work exclusively on super high volume. From my fruitless search I learned that 1 million cans is a very small production run.
IIRC, production depends on the intended use. A can of camp fuel will probably have to stand up to more stringent tests than whipped cream, because it’s a lot more dangerous (and less delicious) if it explodes.
As for forming: I’d guess that the cans themselves are drawn upside down, then the bottoms spun and welded (spin-welding?) into place. Heavier duty things like fire extinguishers are commonly electroformed.
