I had success with kickstarter. I would recommend it. It helped us to have an idea already of who our donors might be.

The NY Times must be in love in Kickstarter, good reading if you are a designer though;
Aren’t business plans and leaving the studio a good thing?
+1 for nxakt. However, you don’t have to leave the studio if your target market is other designers. The business plan is only important if you want to make money.
Kickstarter is a great resource for up and coming designers. It’s very similar to Quirky except that you have less control @quirky and are only paid royalties.
