HP’s new product

not sure what to think…

scb, yours looks a lot better, i want yours for 'xmas.
astro/hp, c’mon, do a better job of ripping stuff off the next time

it makes sense a DVD projector, okay…

it really bares no resemblance to your design

as for the idea, it’s simply not so crazy that someone else would not be able to conceive it with out seeing your project

if it was not a plausible product you wouldn’t have pursued it for your product right?

either loosen up or be more serious about pursuing and owning the rights to own your ideas

not sure what to think…[/quote]

dont think anything. i designed a spaceship in kindergarden. i got upset when Nasa screwed me over…but i got over it…you will too.

Yes, they stole it from you…

I definitely agreed your one is better…i like to have your one too.

of course they never stole it…its an obvious product solution…just neat to finanly see something for real…

when i designed mine the projection technology made the product way too expensive…i guess only now it is feasable…wondering what the hp theater reatails for? $200???

funniest thing is i had an interview at astro probably when they were finishing this product…lol

Its a nice personal validation - to see that you where on the right track is a cool feeling.

SCB,

I totally agree with Yo. I have also had this happen in my education phase, enjoy the feeling of being on the right page. I had three of my school projects show up on the market, two were blatent rip-offs, as they were done by a company who reviewed the entries for a design competition. Did not even rank in the top 25%, but two made it to market…wierd huh.

I am glad to see that you took this the way you should, be happy and thrilled…not bitter, as you mostlikely would not have had the finacial abilities to develope and manufacture the product.

Congrats, and keep thinking ahead…what is the next big technology!?!

Honnestly, i don’t see any common point between yours and astro’s… and i disagree when someone says that yours looks better… It looks like a cheap and ugly toy…

Sorry but i really hate when evbdy say some kind words instead of the truth ! It’s not a revolutionary concept as well… Stop this stupid interogations and answers…

Completly agree with IDiot ( which is the less one down there… )

I took it as he was reffering to the functionality concept, not the literale concept depiction

“Portible DVD Projection theater”

I had a similar thing happen to me - it would be funny to see some other posts like this… I think it happens to a lot of us!

People come up with the same idea all of the time… Check out this project from my senior year - I graduated in '96. You can tell it’s old from the rendering style…

The Sharper Image product (the photos with blue and green backgrounds)came out 3 years after I had designed mine (the model on the left and the renderings). I don’t know how they arrived at their design, but I’m sure they didn’t “rip me off”.

these things happen when you have hundreds of people trying to solve similar problems all over the world…

The posters concept is better in that it solves the unique portability problem, one with a handle, and two by automatically protecting the projector lens when being carried. Smart.

Does it look cheap? Yes, but none-cheaper than the HP… Plus who said it shouldn’t be? No videophile would buy an ‘all in one’ but Wal Mart would sell the hell out of them. And what if it were supposed to be a ‘toy?’ I could easily see a market where children could carry this from room to room and watch movies on the nearest available wall. Cool.

That’s very true. Now it’s just easier to find and expose.

I’m curious how, say Apple, with hundereds of would-be designers posting ‘what if’ products on their blogs, can deal with blatant infringement. At this point, Apple is pretty much screwed–I’d be really surprised if they can come out with a product that hasn’t already been dreamt up and posted somewhere.

I think theres a big future in IP sourcing.

First of all the design firm Astro did not come up with the concept of the overall product so I don’t think they lifted it from your interview.

ost design firms take on projects that were planned by the client, in this case, HP. So they are simply designing the ID for teh product based on breifs and specs given to them from HP.

So I doubt it has any semlance of any type of stealing.

CG,

Gennerally Apple is free and clear…as once the idea is publically displayed…ie on the internet, without a patent or copywrite it is free domain. Not a lawyer, but an inventor who contacted us lost all patent rights because he posted his invention on an internet inventors critique site prior to recieving his pattent confirmation.

I do think some people on here read far more into the posting that what was intended. I just took it as a student who was happy to have the vindication that he/she was on the right path of thought while working on this project. Never does it infer that HP blatantly coppied the projects intent, or design.
