2011 Mediocrity

Congratulations to Subaru for making a far more interesting marketing campaign than their actual product.

The branding and philosophy for this mock brand ‘Mediocrity’ resonated with me emotionally far more than that of the Subaru brand. Though I’m not exactly their target-market.

Comparing the two websites, and intentional design flaws aside, did anyone else prefer the Mediocrity brand to Subaru?
While the shades of brown may not be to many’s taste the website as a whole out-performs the actual Subaru website from a design point of view hands down.

This marketing campaign is brilliant. I love the whole mediocrity thing.

The sad part for me is that it reminds me immensely of an architectural design I am working on. The interiors department decided that every surface of the building should be covered in 50 different shades of beige… the shades range from light beige to light beige. Maybe I should subtlety send out a mass email with a link to the mediocrity website. I think that might help them get the picture.
