Re: New to freelancing- need help with this situation

At first, as a young design student with barely any experience yet, I thought I couldn't offer any good advice on this and just wait for the story to be released as a 'True ID story' but then I realised I would say this: Please don't do this job, I don't want to leave school and face people who are...

Re: New to freelancing- need help with this situation

Update on the situation: I emailed him again to reiterate that without agreeing on a pay structure prior to doing work I couldn't do anything for him. He emailed me back to say that he WAS going to pay me for the work he had wanted done while he was on vacation. I told him this was entirely unclear ...

Re: New to freelancing- need help with this situation

I wasn't going to read anything below: So here's the problem: the individual running the business basically wants me to do free work for him before deciding how much he wants to pay me. as I knew my answer, but read ahead anyhow. Didn't change my answer. Walk away. This is not a job. No good can co...

Re: New to freelancing- need help with this situation

Thanks for all the responses. I did of course show him my CV/portfolio/website in the first email I made to him. He didn't comment on any of these at all. I think my (at the time) current employer was enough information to tell him I'm capable of the job. I also made sure to emphasize the fact that ...

New to freelancing- need help with this situation

Dear Core Freelancing community, I'm new to freelancing, and am in need of help navigating a certain situation. A little background: I recently quit my corporate job of 3.5 years to change tack and move closer to family. I'm currently interning with a company that is a little bit outside of the indu...

Re: Vintage footwear illustration

Thanks again- I was having trouble finding stuff on google but maybe I was using the wrong keywords... A couple years ago someone lent me a book that had all sorts of great stuff in it but I can't remember what it was called (and they are really hard to get in touch with.)

Re: Vintage footwear illustration

Thanks for these. The first link was closest to what I was thinking, but the other two are appreciated too! I have to go through the first one more, but for anyone else who might know of something- I'm looking for images similar to the ones in the first link- but focusing more on classic mens' style...

Re: Cintiq 22HD

I bought a 24HD this past summer upon my upcoming senior year. Definitely the best investment towards my future career hands down (most of my class went to Study Abroad in Rome over the summer, I bought a Cintiq!) and I don't regret it a bit! I really struggled and was easily aggravated with digita...

Cintiq 22HD

I was just upgraded to one of these puppies at work (completely out of the blue, but I'll take it...??!), and I have to say that I am extremely underwhelmed. http://static.trustedreviews.com/94%7C000023c19%7C7cde_Cintiq22HD-rotated.jpg Aside from the widescreen shape and light weight of this thing (...

Re: Women in Industrial Design

In my experience, it seems that the folks who get hired fit a desired "type"- for instance I worked in one place where it seemed like all the new people coming in were Asian women, or elsewhere, all the Marketing folks will be blondes, etc. It seems (to me) that people like to hire people they think...

Re: Who's Flying in Business Class?

Whoa. Interesting to read all of this. I am a junior designer and I fly coach overseas, but one level above myself automatically flies business. From what I've seen, the difference in cost for flight is about $4k. Though I've heard that folks at other companies in my specific industry all fly coach,...

Re: Vietnam + Cambodia

There are certain vaccines you need to get before going (coming from the states). I had a card with me that the doctor gave me with what I got in case I needed to show customs. I forget where I found out I needed. Guide book, doctor and/or countries (tourist) website. If memory serves, I got Yellow...

Re: Vietnam + Cambodia

How did you figure out all this transportation stuff? Did you just go and figure it out on the spot or did you figure out everything in advance? Prop plane sounds awesome... I figured it out on the spot, but had checked out a Thailand and Cambodia guide book beforehand... it was pretty straightforw...
