Re: FORM: 026 Speaker

@ralphzoontjens Thanks! Yeah I agree about challenging manufacturing. I think I was thinking of the low-cost in terms of using digital manufacturing based on the construction of the prototype which was laser cut from plywood and the inner frame which was FDM 3D printed and maybe not needing to inves...

Re: FORM: 026 Speaker

@IDiot Thanks a lot for the feedback. That's a really good point about calling out the imperfections on the physical model. I should totally use it and the issues I had making it to feed directly into improvements for rev 2 of the model. That will also let me end with some new and improved beauty sh...

Re: FORM: 026 Speaker

I wanted to give project documentation an overhaul so I reworked this, trying to push the graphic style and rendering detail (electronic components and hardware).

I've updated the previous post with new images, check out the new version above. Thanks!

Re: Ingvar from Ikea has died

I had spent half of the previous day at IKEA and was putting the furniture together when I heard the news. It was kind of nice to be able to reflect on the current IKEA experience. Every time I go I'm so impressed by the sheer amount of design decisions and details that are involved to make such an ...

FORM: 026 Speaker

Hello again everyone, here's another project I was working on for my first semester of ID grad school at UIC in Chicago. This project was an assignment where we were to take cheap PC speakers from Amazon and transform them into a new product using the same internal components with a specific design ...

Re: Marumado Lamp - Ring Joint Desk Lamp

Wow, thank you all for the thoughtful feedback. I appreciate it! If there’s a better way to respond to everyone let me know, sorry, it’s going to be a long one :D AVClub: Thanks! Our master’s program is a good blend of thinking and making which I think has been fantastic. Lighting design is somethin...

Marumado Lamp - Ring Joint Desk Lamp

Hi everyone, I recently finished documenting one of my projects from my first semester of the Industrial Design Masters program at UIC and wanted to share it for any feedback you might have. Thanks in advance! I designed a desk lamp that uses a ring form as a more aesthetic and simplified re-imaging...

Re: Gmay3's Sketching Journey

Hi everyone, design school has been amazing and really busy, but in the best way. I wanted to share some of the sketches from SQ1CON at UIC in Chicago. I learned so much from this weekend, too much to summarize, but I wanted to focus on 2 things I took away from the conference. 1. Aspire to design e...

Re: Pencil Sharpener Recommendations?

I was on a similar search not too long ago and ended up getting and really liking the KP-123 Model from Panasonic, it's well designed and works well. It's also more compact and wide instead of long and thing so you get a little more room for sketching. :) You can find these on eBay every now and the...

Re: First photo of SpaceX spacesuit

I like it to but to be honest my first read seeing this on Instagram was that it was one of those Honda robots that does that "fall down the stairs" tech demo  Aside from looks, for a functional spacesuit it's amazing. It looks so flexible and thin which will be a game changer I'm sure. I like ...

Re: Game concept.

cwatkinson, awesome work! I really like the graphics and style of icons your chose for the front of the box a lot. I had a suggestion for the rendering though, maybe try a cooler gray background/floor and change the lighting direction so that the front of the box (the part the graphics are on) is th...

Thanks a lot Michael! Looking forward to your Keynote at SQ1CON!

Here's a page of guitars I did for the Weekly Design Challenge. I love sketching music gear.

Re: Gmay3's Sketching Journey

Hey everyone, quick update, I just moved to Chicago where I'm going to be enrolled in the Master of Design in Industrial Design Program at University of Illinois at Chicago aka UIC starting in a few weeks. Totally excited, I can't wait! Huge thanks to all of you who contributed to this journey and h...

Re: Sketch Critique & Improvement

Great first analog sketch post! Totally agree with Michael, just keep practicing and posting to build up the muscle memory. Don't be afraid to take a stab at a sketch and then fix it with an overlaid sheet on top of your first sketch. When I'm frustrated, it has always helped me to go back to straig...

Core77 Design Awards Results Celebration

Hey is anyone going to the Core77 Design Awards Results party in Brooklyn on June 8th? I'm planning on going and it would be awesome to meet up with some fellow Core77 folks and check out all the cool projects.

Here's a link to the event where you can RSVP.
