Re: Favourite book?

Frank Ching. I hadn't heard of him before. Any book in particular? And how has it benefitted you?

Re: Favourite book?

Admin you have moved this to 'off-topic' when the question is directly related to design. Why?

Favourite book?

I'm reading Dyson's autobiography at the mo & finding it fascinating. I'm thinking about the next book to read after. So what's your favourite inspirational/informative book that's benefitted you as a designer?

App design competitions?

Anyone know of an app design competition? An open-idea competition, not one of those with a client's brief and cash reward. App to the Future would have been perfect but I've heard that it's been cancelled this year. I have a concept for an app that I'm looking to bring to market. I was looking at o...

Re: Modo or Cinema 4D for beginner - please help!

Yeah, I believed the 3ds Max for product design thing too. It's true and false. For concept work, standard poly modelling can be used effectively for simple objects. And it's quick in doing that and making iterations. I'd say that's why it's used in fields such a PoS, exhibition design etc (also men...

Re: Modo or Cinema 4D for beginner - please help!

Has MoI made an impact on the industry yet, or is it not feature-rich enough? What do you mean? MoI (Moment of Inspiration) is another NURBS surface modeller - Created by the creator of Rhino. It's a streamlined version of Rhino. I've played about with it a bit, and it's very user friendly so it mi...

Workflow advice / Prototype boards

Hi all, I'm looking for some help with the following: - Tips/workflow advice when designing a UI (without actually developing it). - Good examples of detailed prototype boards for client presentation. - Good examples of marketing presentation. (I noticed that Yo referred to Nest in a previous thread).

Re: App to the future, 2013

Looks interesting. I'm not clear on the T&Cs though. It mentions that winning contestants will be encouraged to develop and sell their app in the Windows Phone Store. Would a winning, non-coding, contestant be offered the services of a professional developer to develop the app? And does the contesta...

I second Cyberdemon's suggestion to check out CGSociety. Depends if it's just a product shot you're after or something more. http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=319. I also work in viz myself, and have sent you an email.

Prototype / Model Book

I'm looking for a book on prototyping and model making, and recently saw the one below. Has anyone got this, or another book to recommend? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prototyping-Modelmaking-Product-Design-Portfolio/dp/1856698769/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377872654&sr=8-1&keywords=PROTOTYPING+AND+MODELMAK...

Re: Ain't getting paid

Depends where you are. In the UK you can charge up to 8.5% apr. But this isn't much of an incentive to pay on time, so it's worth adding an admin fee as well. In the UK you're allowed to charge an admin of £40 (if the invoice is <£1000) or £70 (if the invoice is >£1000) You'll come across clients wh...

Re: need some flash help for IxD. anyone recommend tutorials

The threads a bit old, but this may still help someone. My favourite Flash tutorials by far are by a guy called Lee Brimelow .. http://www.gotoandlearn.com

Ps There's an archive link at the bottom of the page for older Flash tutorials
