Re: Product weight and perceived quality

The most important thing here is, that rational/intellectual individuals can determine that the heaviest object is not necessarily the best object. It takes understanding, thinking, and critical thought to see past this hardwired/natural/primitive/instinctual response or thought in our brains. Dare ...

Re: Product weight and perceived quality

Let me start with an example. You remember that scene in Jurassic Park where the boy Tim is going through the contents of the car they are in, and he finds some night vision goggles: Donald Gennaro: [Tim pops up wearing a pair of night vision goggles] Hey, where'd you find that? Tim: In a box under...

Re: Product weight and perceived quality

I've seen a previous ID/marketing study on this before. I may make some mistakes in the description, as I was introduced to this study about 5 years ago. Basically they took 10 "average US consumers" and gave them $X dollars. They had to go into a single Home Depot, all the same one, and spend that ...

Re: EVA Foam manufacturer

I think what you're looking for would be an EVA distributor. And the best way to find that would be through a factory. The factory has deals with the manufacturer, so they're ordering in super large quantities, and passing the savings onto you (hopefully anyway). If you want some seriously custom sp...

Re: Questions about patent registration

If you believe in it, you can make it happen.

If its not worth it, keep on designing and pushing forward.

Re: Questions about patent registration

If they were presented to Under Armor, I think your chances are smaller.

Promptly remove all photos from here and contact a Patent Attorney. I'm sharing my limited knowledge, you want a professional.

Re: Questions about patent registration

If I'm not mistaken, you cannot patent these now, as you posted them on a public forum without previously patenting them, now they are considered public domain. My sincere suggestion is to immediately remove the images if you'd like to possibly patent this. Speak to a PATENT ATTORNEY. This is the on...

Re: Industrial Design Excursion to Italy

If you can get in, I'd highly recommend a visit to Pagani's shop (near Modena, Italy). I suggest Pagani because of the amazing design, process, and final product they create. Also because Horacio Pagani did a visit back to SCAD (maybe in 2004?), when I was there, so I'm guessing he/they are pretty r...

Re: Possible to protect a product by trademarking a tagline?

I was just thinking about this the most recent time someone came up to me with an idea.

"Why doesn't X product have Y feature on it? If we put Y feature on X product, it would make millions, maybe billions. Ok, go with it. If you profit, I want 50%!"

No.

Re: Possible to protect a product by trademarking a tagline?

I highly recommend the book "Screw it, let's do it" by Richard Branson. Basically the point is, if had had stopped to patent or protect his great ideas when he had them, rather than switfly acting on them with ferocity, he would have been a nobody. Designers should focus on designing things really r...

Re: Possible to protect a product by trademarking a tagline?

Not really. All the competition would do is copyright the phrases... "Worlds strongest magnetic iPhone case" "Worlds lightest magnetic iPhone case" "Worlds smartest magnetic iPhone case" Reminds me of Grey Goose "The best tasting vodka on the planet"... That phrase was completely made up by the owne...

Re: Texas to NYC

Whats your monthly budget? Thing about NYC is that you can nearly find anything/anyone... anywhere. Designers are living in Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, etc, etc. Its not so segregated as it was in the past. However, are you trying to find designer roommates? I'd say post on NYC...

Re: University of Cincinnati vs SCAD vs CCS

I personally had a fantastic education at SCAD and an amazing experience living in Savannah, GA.

Not enough can be said about the city you're choosing to live in for four important years of your life.

Visit every school!

Rip off of the Type-A pen / anyone spot this?

Sad story. A great lesson for young entrepreneurs and designers. Don't lose trust in people. But be cautious. The right preventative measures could have stopped this before it started. http://www.notcot.com/archives/2012/08/beware-kickstartering-pen-type.php http://www.notcot.com/images/2012/08/cwto...

Re: I need advice

Greetings Victor, Can you post some images of your shoe designs so we can provide some constructive criticism and to see where you're at? This way, we can help point you in the right direction(s). Its all about having the skills and the drive, then knowing where to channel them both. Plus, a little ...
