Re: Looking for industrial designer co-founder to launch ide

To the original poster, this offer is not in my core competancies nor my interest at this time. Perhaps you can build a convincing case for attracting a designer of some level is work with you, this will likely be done on a personal level. You have some convincing work to do to demonstrate that you...

Re: how do you spec in china?

No no no no to Excel. This is how you spec quarterly reports, not products. I personally create a tech package, using Illustrator, and saving all the files into one multi-page PDF. This PDF contains drawings, material call outs, construction/manufacturing information, sometimes a page of pure text (...

Re: Resources for Softgoods Designers?

I'm wondering if a there are any softgoods designers out there who wouldn't mind sharing some hints on resources for those interested in learning more about softgoods design? For example - there are a few videos and blogs dedicated to sketching... anything similar for pattern-making? Perhaps if the...

Re: Icon

Looks great Michael. Can't wait to see some of your work on an actual Icon 4x4 in the flesh sometime in the future.

I had the opportunity to do some work with Icon as well... wish I could show some stuff, but can't until the final product is released. Within the next 6 months I'd imagine.

Re: Looking for industrial designer co-founder to launch ide

Depending on the level of experience you require, new grads who are having trouble finding jobs might be a good place to look. I disagree. For an Industrial Designer to take an idea and take it through all the necessary stages of ID, then sourcing a prototyper, prototyping, testing, sourcing a fact...

Re: Looking for industrial designer co-founder to launch ide

That will be a bit tougher to find. Most of us prefer to be paid for our work, not just promised fame and fortune if a product makes it to market. Be prepared to offer a decent rate then see if it works out with you and your designer. Then approach it from a co-founder standpoint. Exactly what NURB...

Re: Do you believe in UFO?

I think you may be wording your question wrong. UFOs are 100% real, as a fact. An Unidentified Flying Object is an "unusual apparent anomaly in the sky that is not readily identifiable to the observer as any known object". Some things that can be called a "UFO" could be a plane, kite, weather balloo...

Re: Industrial Design Entrepreneurs?

Anything is possible. But if you go the starting your own business route, figure 5-10% of your time will be spent on design, and 90-95% of your time will be spent on sourcing, distribution, sales, and operations..... are you going to design school to end up doing that more than 90% of the time? Wha...

Re: Products/Features tied to Consumer Insights

Then it sounds as though it might not be quite as useful as first assumed. If I start the car (putting the fob in a cupholder as I often do w/ the wife's Prius) and walk inside to get that big box I forgot, walk out, wave my foot and nothing happens - I'm not gonna be happy. I can imagine watching ...

Re: new and confused (footwear)

To answer the OP: "would ILLUSTRATOR CS4 be a good enough program to use for my project?" Yes this program is good enough for your project. Illustrator is an excellent tool for creating both techpacks and product renderings, but like anything you will need to become a master of your tools. Others h...

Re: new and confused (footwear)

Additionally, it seems you're already trying to cut corners by using Illustrator CS4 instead of CS6. CS4 is still a great program in the hands of an expert, but you're not an expert. Honestly, I'm offended by your post. Really? Because I am offended by your post. It makes designers sound condescend...

Re: Silicone logo on nylon

Really depends on the factory, or the factory's contacts. Either they can do it, or they can't, or they find someone who can do it (this is very common). I've heard it called all sorts of names, and I like Michael's nickname there. It really matters what the factory calls it. The one thing to really...

Re: Product weight and perceived quality

Really good point there. When someone is spending their hard earned money, they want the most value from it. And weight usually suggests "more". "More" quantity. "More" quality. "More" value. $5 for 7 lbs of tomatoes -Or- $5 for 10 lbs of tomatoes? The winner for the above is obvious. Now some folks...
