Re: Retainer / Part Time ID

I have never publicly stated my hourly rate. But the number that iab has stated is very close to the number that I charge. However, I usually quote and bill per each unique project. There are many other factors involved when running your own design firm. It isn't as black and white as you might thin...

Re: Retainer / Part Time ID

I'm discussing the possibility of transitioning from full time to part time with my employer, and I could really use some advice and opinions. My employer and I are pretty far apart on what we consider appropriate compensation. Here's the situation: My current job responsibilities include ID, quoti...

Re: coolest watch

Thanks for the photo reference, one thing that really seems to be missing from the Tsovet site (even hard to find other non-official photos from reviews and such). Definitely still a large watch, no doubt. I think the black on black helps, rather than the olive/gunmetal somewhat contrasting against ...

Taylor, do you have a barn full of boots? :) No EVA or mesh shall pass over Taylor's door step. :D Hahah! I suppose I've got a stockpile of boots. Just realized that I never posted up my Lucchese cowboy boots on here either... I do live in Texas after all. But yeah, 99% boots. Some people tell me "...

Re: BMW 4 Series.... BMW is back!

I like the layering that is going on with the headlights, the way the hood looks like it overlaps or leaves a gap to the lamp lenses. It feels more material, treating the sheet metal as such, rather than sculpting an abstract form. A bit awkward how the grille, sheet metal of the hood and the headl...

Re: Tim Cook announces plans to manufacture Mac computers in

Do they build the factory near the UPS or FedEx shipping centers? With Apple's pull, I bet UPS and FedEx will build their shipping centers around the Apple *factory. *I'm sure they'll reinvent the factory as we know it too. Probably name it something like "Dreams+Materials Center of Realization". I...

SWISS MADE, RONDA 515 SWISS QUARTZ MOVEMENT W/CALENDAR CASE: AEROSPACE-GRADE 316L STAINLESS STEEL MATTE PVD BLACK BAND: BLACK ITALIAN RUBBER (whatever that is...) Nice Michael! Re: NEW KICKS :: latest purchase

Picked up the last pair of original (Turkish handmade) HELM Ray Rays in black leather. They now make everything in the USA, so these will probably come back in the next couple of seasons in a similar form. Usually about $450, they were on sale down to $200 since they have been on the shelf since for...

Re: Industrial Design and Crime

Jon Kolko and his amazing staff at the Austin Center for Design are tackling complex social issues like this via the design process. Certainly worth taking a close look at. What I find particularly interesting about AC4D is that they're taking a realistic approach to solving these problems, some of ...

Re: BMW 4 Series.... BMW is back!

Anyone else seeing a little recent Jag feel in the profile shot in the doorway? I think it's the vent that does it, but also the position of the wheels and the shape of the hood. My thoughts exactly. That was actually the first photo I saw in the thread (mouse wheel went too quick for me), and I th...

Re: New moderator

Thank you for the warm welcome guys. As I told Michael via email yesterday... it is an privilege and honor to take on the role as a Core77 moderator. Though some may consider this a minor title/role, I think this will be a great outlet for me to give back to the Core77 community, one that has provid...

Re: Tim Cook announces plans to manufacture Mac computers in

This is my favorite bit of design news in the past several months. I know Apple can push their Chinese factories into more or less doing whatever they dream up with materials, form, construction, etc. But I have a feeling that they'll really be able to push manufacturing boundaries here on US soil, ...

Re: Jordan XXVIII

Those molded carbon fiber heel counters are a really trick solution. A great way to fix that issue of heel slip during sharp and quick cuts that I remember all too well during my old high school basketball days.
