Re: coolest watch

Wow, a watch thread. I try to avoid looking at these types of things 'cause it just leads me to bad thoughts...like "Wow, those watches are cool. I think I need another one." But, I will be checking back on this one. I have a soft spot for watches, although I currently only have one...a Fortis. If I...

Anyone had any experience in 'writing' a unique design language? Something they have personally been involved with? I've got some good ideas, just wondering if anyone else on here has done it before. Any advice or help will be appreciated? Can you say more about what you mean by "writing" a design ...

Good examples of "Design Language"

Greetings all! I'm pulling together a presentation on Design Language and am looking for some examples of brand/products that exemplify a strong Design Language. I'm looking for some designer help to get me past the obvious Apple, BMW, Dyson, Method, OXO, KitchenAid (which I've already used) Any hel...

That's a great looking boot/shoe! Great work. Not that you've asked, but my only complaint is the prominence of the Nike Swoosh. Everything else on the shoe is so understated and well proportioned, that the BIG Swoosh looks a little out of place. Maybe it's just the white on black contrast? Regardle...

I've gotten one before. It was part of the negotiation process. They came in a little lower than I hoped on base salary, and I tried to get them up closer to where I wanted to be. They couldn't really come up much, so they tacked on a bonus to sweeten the deal.

In my company's case, alot of it has to do with an employee desire. There's noone here requiring us to attend anything. If it's something that interests you, you need to speak up and get the money to go.

Exactly. This is the type of research that the IDSA should be doing on a ongoing basis, and empowering designers with data that helps prove the power of Design.

Re: design awards

Do design awards have any business value? Absolutely. Like others have said, these awards are probably more valuable to a consultant as it lends a level of credibility and expertise to their portfolios. However, it would be interesting to compare how many leads are generated by an award winning pro...

I've heard it called a "cat's ass valve." (Seriously, I heard this in a meeting)

I've also heard it just refered to as a silicon valve...but that's kinda' vague.

Yeah, this is shady. I've never heard of a policy like this for salaried, full-time employees. If you work for a company, I'd definitely speak to an HR representative and see if what your boss said is indeed true.
