Re: Promotional items- Designing and selling.

The sale of promotional or premium items to operating companies (brands) is typically done by direct mail offers - direct mail catalogs. Those sellers offer hundreds of choices - from bags to mugs to pen to pocket knives. Since the items are typically given away by the companies which purchase them ...

Re: Invention Development Retreat

Thanks for your thoughts. Regarding location, I am near Sandpoint, Idaho. Like a lot of attractive backwoods places - bailing on the big city for the small town lifestyle of places like Sandpoint is increasingly plausible with high speed internet and skipe. I understand the compromise with face to f...

Re: Invention Development Retreat

Looking to an alliance with a known entity in the product design arena, as you suggest, is a good idea. Some time ago I spoke to Design Works (Pelly's firm) about the concept, as well as some academic institutions. Certainly the concept of independent practitioners in allied fields operating collect...

Re: Invention Development Retreat

Thanks for the reference to coroflot - I'll give it a try. Yes, I have met several IDers through my postings, some attracted to the backwoods lifestyle but not in a financial position to break away from a 40/hr gig. It's come close a couple of times. If the stars align and I find the right fit, chem...

Re: Home studio setup - Tips wanted

I second the high ceilings comment, mine too are 13 feet. And bounce a lot of halogen light off that ceiling, helps the psyche. Watch out for east facing windows in the A.M - specially if your computer screens are facing outward. The A.M glare will continuously be fighting you.

Invention Development Retreat

Two objectives:
1) any ideas for various revenue centers/programs/markets for a back country based invention development retreat facility?... a Private Product Development/Commercialization Retreat in the backwoods.
2) any IDers interested in participating?

Anyone worked with Rubbermaid

I have a device I am presenting to the Commercial Products Division of Rubbermaid/Newell. That's the janitorial products guys. Anyone had experience working internally with their design folks?

Strangely enough - Freelance Product Designer/Caretaker

This is unique .... I am very slowly inching myself toward the development of a Private Product Development/Commercialization Retreat in the backwoods of north Idaho. I am a Product Commercialization Consultant (I work with inventors) looking to expand the on-site scope of services to include produc...

Back at the Ranch

I’m (again) perusing the product designer landscape for one IDer interested in a unique direction, as I very slowly inch myself toward the development of a Private Product Development/Commercialization Retreat in the backwoods of north Idaho. As some of you may recall, I am a Licensing Agent/Product...

Re: Back at the Ranch

Like I said above...I am keeping my eyes open for allied talent with a shared personal vision. Clarifying - it's not a commune thing in the sense of the historic communes of the '60s. One might characterize this more as a "professional firm" (multiple thematic disciplines) with all parties at arms- ...

Re: Ethical Issues & Designing for Mass-Market Direct-Respon

Maybe its just that I don't watch TV anymore. Bogus claims in DRTV seem to be more abundant vs. say, brick and mortar.

Ethical Issues & Designing for Mass-Market Direct-Response

As IDers, what do you think about the integrity factor (or at times lack thereof) regarding many products offered through DRTV (fitness-for-use, product claims). Generally, it seems better now then it used to be a few years back. Personally I see tremendous potential in the medium while also feeling...

Re: branding a new consumeable

Is your item actually a Port....or some other consumable? The San Francisco Gourmet show was the big annual trade show event in the specialty gourmet foods category. Years ago Gourmet France was a distributor to that market - but I don't have a clue if they are still around. I used to supply that ma...

Re: Back at the Ranch

Yeah, with each member of the group collaborating with one another as makes sense for each specific project that comes in the door. Generally - To the client we appear to be one cohesive group or firm. However, each consultant is autonomous and invoices separately. All of this from a ranch in the Id...

Re: branding a new consumeable

Looking at it from a venture-design perspective - Accessing the gourmet retailers, a specialty segment, is going to be more forgiving then entre to mass-market grocery. Nutella (gourmet chocolate spread) took this route. Now, years after its intro-one now finds it in Costco where people like me buy ...
