Re: What are you reading?

Up to and including :) Well it reads fast and completely takes you into another world, together with the humor and surreal elements it works for me. My favorite is Kafka on the Shore. But I was a little put off with the volume and lack of ending of 1Q84, then the shorter recent books aren't really ...

Re: What are you reading?

I read Murakami's work too up to 1Q84, I only liked the books that were explicitly mysterious/surreal, especially the earlier works. I am also reading Connectography by Parag Khanna, it explains the world in terms of supply chains rather than politics. Up to 1Q84? Wow! That's a lot of books then. I...

Re: What are you reading?

I am currently reading Haruki Murakami's latest novel: Killing Commendatore (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/16/books/review/haruki-murakami-killing-commendatore.html). The book hasn't seen many likers, and I wonder why. It is, as Murakami's books go, stimulating. As usual, he relies on the non-sema...

Re: What headphones do you use?

I use the iPhone earbuds mostly. I just purchased a basic Sony earphone. It's really good for a basic model. I use it especially at home, where it's almost always quiet.

Re: What do you listen to on the way to work?

I listen to podcasts on my iPhone. My current favorite is the Strength Running podcast hosted by Jason Fitzgerald. It is highly informative. I have picked up several things about injury prevention thanks to the podcast.

Re: Adidas World Cup Font ... WTF???

I'm so glad someone has mentioned this here. I kept saying I couldn't read the names too well, and people thought I was not focusing on the game enough. This is a very illegible style. I'm so glad I found this thread.

Re: email formalities

Although this seems like quite an insider thread, here's my 3 cents' worth: It may be an honest mistake. The sender may have assumed familiarity when there was none. Sometimes, I get mails from my instructors that begin with "Hey," or "M" (M is the first letter of my name). Just thought I'd share th...

Re: What cell phone do you own?

I have a three-year-old iPhone 5S, and it's really good. Of late I've been using it quite heavily, and I've faced no problems. I realize you can't buy a new 5s anymore, but I think a 6s should work. It lasts long, too.

That was on my reading list, too. I just read the Introduction to Sagan's "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage" yesterday. Can't wait to dig in further :D

Re: Which methods do you use to identify problems?

It depends on the type of problem and the sphere in which the problem arises. I depend on constant examination or scrutiny to identify problems. No matter the sphere, on can always use the SWOT method. This has always enabled me to identify problems I wouldn't otherwise have. I also depend a great d...

Re: What objects do you keep on your desk?

This is such a lovely thread. I love the pictures posted here and the variety of objects.
I prefer a clean, uncluttered table. I keep:
a water bottle
my iPhone (in silent mode, of course)
the book I am currently reading
one blue ball-point pen
sticky notes
a ping pong ball
some dry fruits

Re: What are you reading?

I am currently reading a lot of university physics, some of which I like. My reading list is: https://www.bartleby.com/subject/science/physics I am not reading these books for fun. I'm reading because I'm required to. Of course, I'm not reading all of them, just those deemed necessary by my instruct...

Re: Best Digital Camera

I understand that this thread is fairly old. But it got me thinking about my favorite cameras. I personally like the basic Canon EOS-1000d. I've been using it for the last 9 years. Anybody remember this, or use it, too?

Re: What are your other creative outlets?

^ I can completely understand how cooking can be a good creative outlet. I don't cook much, not even regularly. But when I do, I find it really calming and satisfying. Strangely enough, my biggest creative outlet is playing football. It beats stress and I really like the level of mental involvement ...

Hey all! I am new here, and this is my first post.

I'm currently listening to a lot of Frank Sinatra, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Cream :)
