Re: IHS / IDSA midwest

Sorry I missed this. Would have been great to say hello.

What were your thoughts on the show this year?

In my eyes, some nice stuff but cant say anything particularly jumped out.

Plenty of water bottles though...

Re: 3D printer for my home

I posted this previously on another discussion, but would definitely be useful for you. This is a Reddit thread dedicated to 3D printing and aimed mostly at a hobbyist level (ie under $1000): https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/ But they have a monthly megathread where people can state their needs, ...

Re: How are these shaped?

Thanks guys.

Not sure why my initial thought was to press it into shape. Gotta love a nice, generous radius.

How are these shaped?

http://www.partystartsherecharlottesville.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/AMS-390230.jpg I've seen some grainy videos from some time ago about the extrusion and coiling production of a basic plastic Slinky, but can't find anything on the shaped versions above. My initial thought was that they were m...

Re: CES as a way to meet potential employers?

It wouldn't change my mind, but it is a way to create another point of contact and would bring your name back up to the forefront. People get busy, and giving them something is usually a good way to broaden the conversation. It certainly would bump the enthusiasm and dedication points up so all oth...

Re: Marumado Lamp - Ring Joint Desk Lamp

Everything has been pretty well summed up, but my 2 cents would to be aware of how your bodies are intersecting and the subsequent transitions. As an example, you've given it some thought with the bottom black semi-doughnut hinge where it blends in well enough to the conical base, but the top semi-d...

Re: CES as a way to meet potential employers?

Well, research and inspiration hold a lot of value. If you go you could document everything into a trend report, publish that on your portfolio site, and then send it to places you have applied as a followup.... hey, I applied a couple of months ago, thought you might like to see my CES trend repor...

Re: CES as a way to meet potential employers?

Iab, Yo, I appreciate your replies. I should rephrase what I'm after: I'd be looking for a full-time job rather than looking for clients. But agree they are a goldmine for connections, old and new. I came back from those other shows with more business cards than I could hold. To be amongst it all at...

Re: What 3d printer do you use at work?

Wanted to concur with Ryan about the Objet - people can be general all rounders with it, but you'll need someone dedicated to get intimate with the machine and processes. Although focusing more on the hobbyist, this reddit 3D printing megathread can be a good resource to ask questions and search for...

CES as a way to meet potential employers?

I know very late in the game considering it's already started, but... Would it be worth paying (flights, accom, registration fee) to go to CES and use it as a way to meet potential employers? I am very recently in a position where I could possibly make it work (including industry affiliation) to hea...

Re: Methods in Solidworks

A former colleague of mine used a master sketch (drawn in a part file) to create outlines for multi-body parts, dimension all the vitals etc, but not actually create any bodies (or surfaces). He would then insert the master sketch part file into a new part file at the top of the tree, converted what...

Thanks for the info regarding Silicone and PC. The bottom part does feel like silicone to the touch, but sounds like plastic though. The finish is definitely not shiny, more like a matte one.
Sounds like it could also be a 'hard' plastic with a soft touch coating applied afterwards
