Re: Where to sell high end furniture?

similar to iab, I had a previous life apprenticed to a furniture artist. 25 years or so ago. He sold in galleries in Boston and NYC and occasionally museum shows. I helped build one-off product in the $5- $15K range. Galleries take half of any sale from a show but only 10% off any commissions that r...

Re: Associates Degree in ID

the short answer is get the BA, most jobs for assoc are modelmakers or CAD jockies - both soon to become automated. but a good portfolio will get you noticed regardless of degree, two years probably isn't going to get you competitive with a four year, but if you get in the door somewhere you can wor...

I've never received a straight answer to the schedule question in an interview, either they tell me I've got the job or it's to be filled ASAP

Re: Hacking and Design

so, I work in an adjacent space to the Hacker/Maker movement. It's not a job, it's often artistic, so in that sense it's not design. It is a purposeful creation of something new. Several sponsored "Hackathons" have produced commercial products as well. (Much of the movement is structured around STEM...

Re: Is the AI going in the right direction?

I agree with Mr-914 I've read that the most intelligent computers in the world are perhaps as smart as a cat, in capacity to learn about the world and respond to changes. Whats available to consumers is really just a collection of millions of "if-then" statements with some fancy statistics (not to d...

Re: Errors & Omissions (E&O) Insurance Recomendations?

ID isn't liable in the legal sense so we rarely use it - I've only heard of it used when an individual designer goes off into entrepreneurship and manufactures their own design.
sorry I have no further info for you.

Re: Micro/Smart apartments - What do we think?

like everything, there are 2 sides to the story. Millennials and those living in NYC or SF love them for the winning combo of affordability plus privacy. Developers love them because they collect more rent per square foot (versus 2 or 3 bedroom apt's). Cities on the other hand have witnessed generat...

Re: McKinsey & Company Acquires Lunar -- Interesting

It seems that many creative consultancies are driven by the founders, and once they move on - the business fades away in time.
Part of an interesting trend - I wonder how many of these new in-house consultancies will create powerhouse design driven corporations?
