Re: The Philosophy of Familiarism

I don't get it, how is it any different from intuitive design? I feel like it's short sighted and hasn't been researched fully. Straight out of Don Normans "Design of Everyday Things," read: affordances. "Affordances are an object’s properties that show the possible actions users can take with it, t...

Kia has been killing it lately, agree that theirs was the only car ad of note. Supra was a runner up but only because "supra"

Re: Protecting my IP while getting something produced in China

Have them sign a contract, there's not much else that you can do, and even a contract can be unenforceable. When getting quotes, never send a full, finalized design. Remove important features from parts, and don't send every part. At this stage you should be comparing costs between factories, final ...

but essentially its connecting familiar actions with new experiences. The best example i've seen is Naoto Fukasawa's Muji CD player. The device is wall mounted and hanging from it is a string similar what you would find on a ceiling fan. When pulled, the CD starts to slowly spin, mimicking the beha...

Re: Project: 1 Strike Hammer

Seriously though, thanks for the info on brass hammers. We were not aware of all of that. As we go through the second iteration it will be fun to play with some of this feedback. You didn't know brass hammers existed? Did you not do any research on this during your design process? Did you know that...

Re: Project: 1 Strike Hammer

Pricing on this came back ridiculously high so we are redesigning it a bit for manufacturing Do you not consider manufacturing processes while you are designing?! I feel like you fell somewhere in the middle of "art products" and normal functional design. It's not sculptural or beautiful enough in ...

Re: Applying/Modeling Textures

Each row is most likely a circular pattern of a lofted cut--hexagon lofting to a single point. The fade is the tricky part, I can't think of an easy way of doing that in solidworks without individually creating each one.

Can you flatten it out and bend it back? As cool as it is I'm having difficulty believing it's actually useful

Re: ATS-friendly resumes for designers

I wonder if there is a site where you can upload your resume and get a preview of what the algorithm will do to it?

I've been concerned about this in the past as well, fearful that my aesthetically-pleasing PDF is doing more harm than good.

Re: Comment section removed from blog post

Free speech, as long as they agree with you, I suppose. A website allowing you to comment on an editorial has nothing to do with free speech. How do you feel your 1st amendment rights are being violated? Is it a sponsored post? Why delete comments if it isn't? I just think it's a weak approach, esp...

Comment section removed from blog post

Stay classy, core77. There were a few negative comments on the "Decoding the design language of the 2019 Lexus ES350" post, written by a cofounder of core77. Now the comments section has been removed completely. Free speech, as long as they agree with you, I suppose. One person said the grill is ugl...
