Re: Discussion about the IDSA

I reached out to Ravi Sawhney tonight regarding the Catalyst program. His e-mail auto-responder says he's out of the office with little or no e-mail access through 3/10. I'll try to connect with him again later in the week and will post an update when I have one - and/or have him post an update. CG ...

Re: Discussion about the IDSA

Hey - I also am not sure of exactly how Ravi picked the Catalyst reviewers - or whether or not they all review every Catalyst entry. I wanted to reach out to Ravi today to ask, but I've been tied up all afternoon. I'll try to get in touch with him and with Clive in the next day or so. There's clearl...

Re: Discussion about the IDSA

Okay - had to do a short meeting so, to finish my thought from earlier . . . With regard to the second point Michael made about case studies, IDSA is actively generating content in this area too through the Catalyst program. http://www.idsacatalyst.org/ Originally, conceived as a competition among p...

Michael - With regards to your request that IDSA do more to curate the history of ID, you might take a look at the following links: http://www.idsa.org/absolutenm/templates/?a=80 Complete history of the organization and its' various forms over the years. http://www.idsa.org/absolutenm/templates/?a=5...

Re: Bizcation...IDSA Conference Miami

I registered yesterday. The speaker line-up looks really good this year: http://www.idsa.org/absolutenm/templates/?a=4346&z=180. Reminder: Friday, August 7th is the deadline for discounted early registration.

Hope to see you in Miami!

Re: norwegian design shows/points of interest

Just got back from a trip to Norway. It's a beautiful country. I've got family there so I *try* to visit once a year - it really ends up being about once every 18 months - which is to say, not nearly often enough. Anyway, on this recent trip, we drove from Oslo over to Lysebotn (near Stavanger) and ...

Re: ID Twitter

Twitter is a funny thing, really. I started using it about a year ago to send messages to friends and family via my cell phone while I was on a week long bicycle trip. My updates were protected so the only people who could see them were people I allowed to see them. I didn't really follow anyone eit...

My firm's been in business for a little more than 5 years and I'm in agreement with a lot of the advice you've been given here. I'll add or reiterate a few points. Cash is KING. You've got to have money in the bank when you start or you have to have a very well thought out plan for self-financing. Z...

Olympic torches are pretty interesting items. From a design and engineering perspective, they are more complex than they appear at first glance. They don't have igniters. The flame has to be passed torch to torch. They can't be refilled either. This helps maintain the sanctity of the Olympic flame. ...

As a result of this discussion, I've asked the IDSA staff to have Bob Schwartz from Proctor & Gamble draft a letter describing why he thinks the Connecting conference is valuable enough to send more than a dozen designers from P&G. As soon as the letter is posted online, I'll provide a link. Perhaps...

I hope many of you can make it. I don't think you'll be disappointed. There are more speakers and there will be more content than there has been at any previous IDSA conference. Much of the content for the break-out sessions was selected by a blind jury from submitted abstracts making the selection ...
