Re: Software find for moodboards !

Cool! I would be curious what your process was for this comic. Did you use the CAD as an underlay?

Re: A.I. "designed" cars

Yes, I am learning to program that A.I. :) Also with a coupling towards manufacturing and developing knowledge on user requirements regarding customizers and generators. Interesting! What are your thoughts on how this will impact the Industrial Designs field? Wipe us out completely? A tool that is ...

Re: Sharing your salary with coworkers

Millennial here, and I agree with what Michael and Mike have said as well. If i'm the same role as someone but out performing them, compensation is definitely warranted, and vise versa. I think there's an obvious issue with wage gap especially among genders and a baseline wage is something needed fo...

A.I. "designed" cars

Check it out, A.I. is now "designing" cars using a technique called style mixing. Combine this with Nissan's desire to create a complete A.I. driven designer I would say maybe a good amount of design jobs are not totally safe from automation in the near future after all. Would be great to have a dis...

Re: Online portfolio requires password

I don't see it as a big red flag as long as the candidate understands it may be an inconvenience and there are a lot of decision makers who "can't be bothered by the trouble." Could be: 1. The candidate has projects that can not be shared publicly yet 2. (and my favorite) they are sick of the rampan...

Re: Daughter wants design&enginering, where are programs?

I attended GVSU for business, and KCAD for my design degree so I know a lot of individuals from the GVSU program. From my perspective the program is really a generic Mechanical/Product engineer degree and I've never really seen any depth of design knowledge come from it rather than maybe some generi...

I would also like to add: Research any job's future and there's a chance there is an article talking about a robot/machine taking that job ;)

Re: Future of Product Design

In my opinion yes, there will definitely be jobs for industrial designers, but I think you need to expand your mind to understand what that means. Industrial designers are increasingly required to work on teams to design the entire journey of products and experiences. It's also to be seen if as much...

Re: Project: 1 Strike Hammer

you're comparing this to the Alessi juicer, which is an attractive design reminiscent of Brancusi's Bird in Space. I had a professor in college that would always defend the Alessi Juicer's function and I always thought it was funny and interesting to think about. His argument was that everyone says...

Re: Learning Solidworks for ID

Thanks everyone for the info! I agree I am already fearing some of the surfacing I will have to do in SW, however it seems everyone we're working with is using Solidworks so it makes sense for us.

Ralphzoontjens - Thanks for the video, I will definitely be checking it out!

Learning Solidworks for ID

Hey everyone, I am switching from Rhino at my company to Solidworks and will be starting on the built-in modules first before assessing the purchase of an outside training program. I have some CAD knowledge (I know Rhino extremely well, and have dabbled in Fusion 360 and Solidworks. I understand the...

Re: Kanye West Plagiarizes Industrial Designer's Work

I will say that I would have assumed that a creative like Kanye would have a bit more respect for the work, time, resources, talent and effort that goes into producing original work. And not just pull somebody's student thesis off Behance and pass it off as his concept. Keep in mind, Kanye is the g...

Re: Eames, tandem bench

AVClub, Yeah difficult is right, i found some information online as to the method for doing the seamless covering. I have had several companies tell me that they cant/wont do it. One company had done it in the past and quoted 300 per seat, I am still considering the suggestions of stripping it bare...

Re: Eames, tandem bench

AVClub, that would give me the base fiberglass look - correct? which i might like. Yeah it would be fiberglass but they more than likely have holes in the seat pan which you can try to fill with epoxy and fiberglass and match the color or do a completely different color all together, or just use me...
