Re: Sharing your salary with coworkers

Not clear on the details of performance vs. compensation above, but annual performance reviews often involve peer reviews, whereby team members offer input on collaborators and team members over a given period. It’s supposed to be agnostic of previous life and/or achievements. If someone bitches abo...

Re: Future of Product Design

zh: Taking it back to your initial question I think the short answer is “yes”, there will still be a place for Industrial designers and of course Ux for some time to come in the US and across the globe. Think about Industrial design as the ‘noun’- the ‘what’, the thing, then think about Interaction...

Re: "Budget" Cad prodgrams

As a data point: I must have spent more than 15 years in tech biz, working in Rhino with a bunch of Asian ODMs, and model-maker vendors. Exporting as STEP, often including place-holder mechanical details. They'd rebuild in their preferred CAD package, then we'd iterate back and forth with shared fil...

I worked in an environment where we used 10,000ft and it works pretty well. (created by a design company that has roots in the corporate workplace...)

Re: The Overlooked Wonders of Soviet-Era Industrial Design

Lovely! Thank you. Always important to look at design and arts through a different cultural lens.

(btw, Moscow Design Museum has a nice Instagram feed, though not all of it Soviet/Russian)

As far as rendering goes, I know of architects here in Portland who commission companies like MIR in Norway to deliver epic images:

Re: Dream Office

For work space, I will go against conventional designer wisdom and say there is nothing worse than open concept. It is only good if you want low productivity. Yes 'open-plan' can be an agony for some. IMHO, Collaboration is good, but you have to allow for personality types who need to go heads-down...

Re: Social scientists in design research?

Especially as many products are packaged as part of a “customer journey”, ethnographic and/or anthropological research is often called upon to describe behaviors and aspirations through the journey, or product life cycle. It can be informative, especially when ‘extremes of use’ are identified at eit...

Re: Design Museum show on prosthetics at PNCA Portland
