Re: Longest continuously manufactured products

I think the Tupperware Wonderlier set has been going since 1954.

I can't remember the exact products but there is quite a few items in their catalogue that still use original tooling from the 50s-60s

Re: Design Team Creative Sessions

Never where I have worked but I have been jealous of friends when they have told me that people can present their pet projects or something they are working on in their free time. A bit like a show and tell. Designer A may collect vintage whatevers. Designer B may be learning how to knit and this is...

Re: "Things are going digital"

I would agree that physical objects will have a lesser importance as time goes on. It is really a just an algorithm. How much time one has in a day and how they choose to use that time. If a greater percent of time (and there is no denying it is) is being devoted to InstaSnapYouFaceChatBookGramGoog...

Re: Designer To Entrepreneur

I've been involved with two designers that have become entrepreneurs and eventually released products that have formed a business. Both of them came from personal projects they did in their evenings and weekends, identified a problem and then designed a product from them. Then they realised people w...

Re: Past Projects (in Consultancy) shown in New Personal Com

A couple of years ago I freelanced at a very small consultancy where one of the founders had been a design manager at some very large global consumer electronics brands (0ne of bepsters colleagues used to work with him actually  ). On their website, he showcased some of these projects but in t...

Re: Setting up a royalty deal based on personal project

Have you contacted any of the companies to ask about how they approach royalties, IP and pay structure? If the idea is fully mapped out and ready to go, and they like it, do you plan on licensing them the rights (you own the IP) to manufacture and sell your product for the royalty payment for x tim...

Setting up a royalty deal based on personal project

I've been working on a personal project in my spare time after work. It's purely aesthetical and the more I look at where I'm at, the more I think it could fit well with some of the brands I admire. I've been thinking rather than just post it online and hopefully, it becomes clickbait for a while on...

Re: Newly Released Work (All Product Types)

Nicely done, David! Congrats. Always cool to see your own products released into the wild. The texture on the dark parts looks really rough and shiny. Was that intended? I am curious what material that might be? Thanks Bengt! Definitely not, I'm praying it is just a bit of weird photography and com...

Re: Newly Released Work (All Product Types)

Couple of things I did whilst in -house at Tupperware just hit the market a few weeks ago. Only found a couple of pics online whilst I wait for the better quality ones/the real items. First one the brief was for a creamer to go with an existing coffee pot but seems they want to market it as all purp...

Re: 10 years out...What does your portfolio look like?

Hitting the 20 year mark very soon as well. My advice, just show your work. I'm always skeptical of too much production (the perfect presentation for every project just screams of post work, some of which is fine, but too much canned process feels stiff) and as Richard said, skeptical of just beaut...

Re: Portfolio Website Review

The thing is, the competition is just very strong and in design but that's not the industry's fault. To bounce off this and even though Keno was quite blunt, his "average" comment does ring true. I've found as I've progressed and gotten better that actually competition is relatively low. An example...

Re: "redoing" a school project for your portfolio

I think it can often depend and can be a double edged sword but perhaps the key would be showing progression in your skillset in later projects. If a project worked well and you can talk through your decision making then to redo some sketches I think is a bit of a lie because that isn't really how y...

Re: Portfolio Review

Thanks! I actually had forgotten this was still up here until it popped into the top whatever threads. The one posted originally was from backend of 2014 and into 2015. I did redo my portfolio to reflect a more mature style which can be viewed on Behance here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/4894037...

I've noticed speckling/marbling be a finish trend over the last year or so:
