Re: Again? Rhianna PUMA's new Creative Director

Think back ten years, whoever the Lady Gaga or Rihanna of 2004 was, and imagine them as the "creative design lead" of whichever brand/ product, and how ridiculous that looks. Then cast your mind back to 1994, 1984 etc. and how more and more ludicrous it becomes. Makes a good speculative fiction alt...

Re: Again? Rhianna PUMA's new Creative Director

Oh dear. I've 'ghost designed' for stuff like this as have many of my friends. Being a freelancer, my entire career is ghost designer. Incidentally the only sleb I've ever heard of that does actually 'do it herself' is Gwen Stefani. Apparently spends several weeks every year, making story boards, se...

Re: Nike sues former designers

and on the destroying the evidence tip, my boss from my soccer boot designing days has today been sentenced to four years for a £1million fraud. He was caught because the engineer he employed to destroy the evidence - I.e. They asked him to wipe Incriminating emails related to that fraud - became co...

Re: Nike sues former designers

Me too. 23 years in the footwear trade now. In my experience you don't breach your non compete, you don't scheme about how you might breach your non compete or figure out ways of other people to pick the bits up and pay for it. So if you resign you suck up that one year non compete, it's what you ag...

Re: Nike sues former designers

Shoenista: I work for a company that doesn't have a human resources department:) Sometimes, you can have the best of all worlds. :D When I was talking about security, I meant more the regular guaranteed salary and conditions that they were used to at their old employer. Going freelance, setting up ...

Re: Nike sues former designers

I'm surprised that ADIDAS even considered getting in bed with them as this kind of behavior eventually repeats. Yep I agree, when a design manager I never employed anyone who was willing to disclose the secrets or unlaunched product design ideas of anyone else. Perhaps Adidas was merely using them ...

Re: Nike sues former designers

The fact that the corporation owns you is why I don't want to be an employee anymore. I want to be able to speak my mind, not bite my tongue. The thought of being spied on, the fact that you are a human resource rather than a human being. Nope. I'm not interested. I suppose the hard lesson learned h...

Re: Nike sues former designers

What a shocker. Without even going into the forensics. I've been on a non compete before, would not have dreamed to breach it out of respect for my employer. But I'm surprised that anyone would think it ok/undetectable to use their employers equipment to have conversations like that. Clever footwear...

Re: Apply through OUR website,

Whats wrong with putting the keywords in your resume? Is this not how modern resume reading software works? Anyway, I went for a freelance gig last week. I was approached by an agency that has placed me in the past. Job spec with several agencies - get to interview to discover that job spec is nothi...

Re: Ownership of Design Rights When Freelancing - UK

If you're freelance and there's no contract, you own the design rights. You should be signing and dating your designs. How do I know this for sure? I did a small project for a UK client without a contract. The designs were knocked off by a market competitor so they took them to court - in order to d...

My 83 year old father in law keeps doing this - he meets people down the pub and persuades them they need a website from my partner. My partner is currently doing 12 hour days and working weekends. Thanks Dad!

Re: AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggh!!!!

I've had two really great clients from there and made a very good friend within our trade, but I also know someone who was badly humiliated by an aggressive conwoman, who put her in a compromsing position by ripping off someone they were supplying (my friend designing, she supplying), for tens of th...

Re: AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggh!!!!

worrying trend with LI - as well as people attempting to endorse me for skills I don't have, I discovered I've been added to projects I've never had any involvement with. Contact 'unfriended' immeditely, obviously. LI encourages people to be dishonest, they make it so easy. And I got a great email t...
