Here is what I use. Unfortunate name, but still a good product.
Silicone and compact, it unfolds for winding.

Re: Longevity of soft touch finish?

I'm guessing soft touch involves all kinds of nasty chemicals too. it's made from the same types of chemicals as the part that it's covering, which is usually ABS or some blend with it, only with none of the "A" so if you don't like what's underneath then you won't like what's on top. On the other ...

Re: Rapid Prototyping firms - China

I have used Sunpe based on this post and they do terrific work. CNC and urethane castings with very good quality. They are best for projects that need a lot of manual work like finishing and painting. Price is so much better than domestic rp firms - usually 1/10 the price. Not a good option for SLAs...

Re: Tips needed on injection molding my product

ABS can sometimes be molded with no draft angle, and your thin wall at the top can certainly be done. However, whether or not your Chinese supplier can do it depends on the type of molding press they are using, whether they have optimized the mold construction, and whether they can achieve optimal p...

Re: Fisker steps down

Best hope for EVs are demographic trends. Kids are buying fewer cars, people are driving less and moving more to urban areas. Tesla needs to focus on buses, taxis, and car sharing services. The sedan should be at most a limited edition speciality item used to drum up publicity with the latest hot ce...

Re: How are you doing financially as a designer

This doesn't have to do with design but its good career advice nonetheless. Design is a scalable career so there are people in positions at all points on the spectrum. Hard work and commitment to your personal values count for a lot:

Re: Fisker steps down

Obviously the government isn't currently capable of making sound decisions when it comes to allocating resources for research and development. I'm not sure if it ever was. History gets re-written and re-interpreted so much that you have to be careful what you believe anymore. They'll bring up the Ma...

I can't disagree with the opinions about celebrity pr stunts, but on the other hand BB is not just groping at straws here. They're making a concerted effort to appeal to their last hope, albeit a desperate one:

Re: How Capitalism Can Save Art

Lets not bring spirituality into it. Whatever you say Reverend. Although it's not necessarily organized religion, but the the authenticity and sublimity of virtue, which is the presumed result of spirituality. You're probably right about art really drifting from science. The root problem may be sci...

Re: How Capitalism Can Save Art

Curious. Rather than critical of "art" or "capitalism", no one sees this article as; society having replaced/accepted what once was considered the acme of contemporary physical creativity (which was the artist's abilities (paint, sculpt, sketch, etc.)), with the Industrial Designer as renaissance m...

Re: 3D Printing

Well I was hungry earlier so microwave popped into my head. If anything is the sewing machine, it's 3D CAD. This is the part of process where skills, talent, and intent come in. But even that is missing the important part. Your 3rd point is more like it. Designs of disposable consumables will be pur...

Re: How Capitalism Can Save Art

mo-i: the ironic part is that every communist culture has a flury of optimistic creativity in its first 5-20 years. Then, as the bureaucracy builds, the real professional dictators take over and paranoia descends and stamps every little bit of creativity out. The irony in Cuba was that after the re...
