Re: Preferred format/delivery method for portfolios?

Hey there, I'd have a PDF and an online version too. I wouldn't use ISSUU at all. If I were you I'd buy a domain and install wordpress on it, then buy a premium theme and do it that way. There's indexhibit too, although that requires some CSS know-how. Try Cargo Collective, or Orman Clark has just r...

Re: Internships when you already have working experience

Getting an internship while already having experience is definitely doable. I had an internship after working a couple years. It might be best to attempt this in a frenzied area, like NYC or San Francisco; everything is faster moving and it's possible a studio would be more likely to snatch up the ...

Internships when you already have working experience

Hi everyone, I've always wanted to work in America and as I'm getting older, I'm now 27, I've realised that if I'm serious about doing this I should really start taking the steps to do it. I've been researching routes in to working in the States but it's all very Catch 22 - you can't apply for a job...

Re: World's first 3D printed gun fired in US.

Some really interesting points and views in response to this. Great to read and take on board different perspectives. I realise the subject of the post was a little controversial given everyone has different opinions on guns and gun control. I just figured it was a big development in terms of 3d pri...

World's first 3D printed gun fired in US.

Hey everyone, Read the story of the world's first 3D printed gun being fired this morning. The company behind it plans to release the blueprints to print your own online, which includes 16 parts - 15 printed and 1 household nail as a firing pin. The company behind it says "The project is not about v...

Re: How do you manage your BOM's?

Using a word doc is a new one on me. Seems everyone has very different ways of doing this. Version control is an important element, it seems there should be an easier way, the method you list @Random Though Processed sounds time consuming. @Scrotum are you cool with having all that sensitive data in...

Re: what skill to hone to become a designer

Sketching is important but it's only one of the many tools you need to be a good designer. Sketching allows you to explore ideas fast and effectively and then communicate those ideas with those around you. Without the ideas and understanding of the problem the sketches are just fancy pictures that m...

Re: How do you manage your BOM's?

What sort of place do you work? Manufacturer? Consultancy? Where you work will have a lot to do with how you manage BOMs. I was working at a consultancy (then I left to travel, currently looking for a new design role) and we used Excel. I also have my own company which manufactures and sells a prod...

How do you manage your BOM's?

Hey everyone, Not the most glamorous topic and I'm not sure if this is a general discussion topic but I'm looking at how I manage my BOM's and I'm curious how everyone else manages theirs. Do you use Excel? Or do you use bought software? Why do you do it the way you do it? Hoping to gain some insigh...

Re: If you could work for any company who would it be?

Lego's a good shout. The guy I replaced at my previous job moved on to Lego, I imagine it would be quite fun there. Where are you at now iab? At the moment I'm really enjoying what Quirky is doing, their whole ethos of 'making invention accessible' is brilliant and the company culture looks pretty s...
