Core77 Conference - NEED HELP with a place to stay

Hi Core77 readers! Are you interested in helping out a fellow design professional in a BIG way?! I'm very excited to announce that I just signed up to volunteer for the Core77 conference but I'm between jobs at the moment so finances are a bit tight. I would love it if someone(s) could do me a solid...

Do you use layers in Illustrator?

So this is basically a workflow question but I wanted to find out if I'm wasting time or doing extra work for no benefit. In illustrator I use layers consistently to separate out different aspects of my project so I can make quick edits, view different options, or just to remove extra noise so I can...

Re: Vehicles spotted in your neighborhood

I saw this blue beauty in my neighborhood in Portland. A bit over dramatized body lines for my taste but I can still appreciate. The car in the background looks pretty nice too.

Re: Given an unpaid full project as a part of the interview

As someone who has done this before I would say set very tight time parameters for yourself regarding the work and then stick to it. Also make sure you mention this timeline in the project. I wouldn't spend a lot of time since they probably just want to see how you would approach a project and your ...

2015 Conferences - Looking for suggestions

My awesome employer just gave me the green light to go to a new conference this year! I work for a fitness equipment company in the very fuzzy front end of their product development department. I float between physical product and digital pretty regularly and I occasionally interface with the market...

Shweeb Pedal Powered Monorail

Has anyone seen this? I just stumbled upon it and when I searched for it in the Core77 archive I didn't find anything. Kind of interesting. I'd be interested in giving it a try.

UI Design for Fitness

Seems like the fitness industry would be an interesting industry to create really cool UI. I know someone who works there and it seems like it would be interesting. Has anyone seen this?

Re: I feel mediocre.

As someone who has an engineering background and no formal design background but still works in the industry I would say that I constantly fight the feeling of inadequacy. For that reason a majority of my work tends to be in the idea creation side of projects. For me it's easier to design something ...

Re: Need HELP!! LCD Display Design [think CASIO calculator]

Throwing a touch screen on something just because it's the thing to do doesn't necessarily improve a product. Sorry if that sentence structure was a bit odd but just to clarify we are not thinking of using a touch screen... Not applicable for this type of project. In our use case there are the basi...

Need HELP!! LCD Display Design [think CASIO calculator]

Hello Corolites, please lend me your assistance. I have been tasked with creating a new console layout as part of a refresh of our cardio product. I have ZERO experience with laying out the old school LCD displays like what you would find on smaller products that don't warrant a full on touch screen...
