It was originally a university project. He said he was approached by a company to manufacture it.

Re: Manufactering expertise needed for a concept

I think your best option is to 3D print the master pattern and investment cast as Scott said. I'm not sure about the costs of the casting.

Found this page from Stratasys about FDM investment casting: http://www.stratasys.com/applications/m ... nt-casting

Engineering Books

Did some searches on the boards but didn't really find a easy to read thread about this: our favorite engineering and product design textbooks. For example, Manufacturing Processes for Design Professionals by Rob Thompson is an amazing resource. If you could all post the books you find yourself refe...

Re: Coroflot portfolio update

Gentle bump? I remember this forum being a lot more active…I guess times change. I'd like to hear some other critique. :! Maybe some stuff I could improve? So far I haven't really heard back from studios despite sending out resumes and cover letters to many places that I felt qualified for. What can...

Re: 1HDC 12.12 - Redesign Santa's Sleigh [Discussion Forum]

Yawn. Stretch. A wee bit of scratching of the nether regions..... Hi All. It seems as though some of you have missed the 1HDC while I....napped. We're going to fire it back up with some thing light. Let's see what we can do to bring some fun to the boards. Yes please. And that was quite a nap you t...

Re: Junior Portfolio Feedback

Agreed about the last project. I think it's the strongest in several ways. Great problem to solve and a great solution.

Re: Critique my portfolio?

Paul, Agreed with yo ^^ above. I would like to see the development sketches that really moved things forward to be more emphasized in the project. Everything in the portfolio seems to be at the same level of craft/commitment, which is the basis for some of my graphic design critique if you want to t...

Coroflot portfolio update

So I recently revamped some pages for my portfolio and I'd like to get some feedback on them as I start to work on some more. Please check out http://www.coroflot.com/yssagul and let me know what you think about the first three projects (Surge Protector, Faucet, and Desk Accessory) I've learned a lo...

Re: Where'd you get your wallet? What do you carry in it?

The most interesting thing I got from this incredibly old topic is the amount of stuff that people want to carry around with them and where. For those that care about hip alignment, putting a fat wallet in your back pocket is a bad idea. I have tried to carry my cellphone around as little as possibl...

Submitting Designs

I have a few questions about freelance furniture design and starting your own line. It all seems incredibly daunting and impossible, but I do believe that I have a unique vision and philosophy that I can share with a large number of people, (willing to say mass-market). You can check out my coroflot...

First-person or Third-person

Figured this was the best forum for this… I'm struggling between writing copy for my design firm in first-person or third-person. What do you guys feel are the strengths and weaknesses of both? Our background info is that we're an architecture design/fabrication studio in Philadelphia. I noticed tha...

Thanks for the helpful comments guys!

Soak: I think we have been using Smooth-on Crystal Clear 206, but your testing idea is a great suggestion. I'll get on that right away.
