Re: Interstellar: A new low in Concept Design ?

LOVED THE ROBOTS. Finally a non-athropomorphic robot that does what I ask it to do, even if that is drop into a blackhole. I thought they were easily one of the best parts of the film.

Re: Am I "unprofessional "?

I gave up a couple months ago on drawing courses, right after the first 2 days (6 hours/day in the weekend + 5 hours/day homework from Monday to Friday seemed too much for me.) If you hate the investment required in visualizing your ideas then you're really going to struggle with the time, effort, ...

Re: IDEO on 60 Minutes

] nice video. but i'm more interested in design DOING! with all the fame, i can't recall a good product ideo has designed in the past 5 years.... can anyone? And when I was at IDEO so did David Kelley. They all started their companies because they like designing stuff. Too many people take a dump on...

When I was at frog, I was chatting with Hartmut Esslinger and he said almost the same thing word for word. And when I was at IDEO...

Re: Frank Lloyd Wright Island Property

So apparently the island was purchased in 1996 for 700K. That's not including the huge 5,000 SF house. That was constructed after it was purchased by a guy named Massaro. It is not recognized as a FLW home by the FLW Foundation because Massaro did not pay to have it certified. He had it built based ...

eobet: You bring up an interesting point. I wonder if this thing wasn't in the can and this is a new way of doing a test market. Kinda turns my stomach, because kickstarter is more exciting when it's funding Davids and not the Goliaths. Though I definitely agree on your point, the stuff that makes ...

Check out the Rockwell Group. They're an architecture firm in NYC that has hired a ton of UC industrial design students over the last few years.

Re: Sketch-Fu: Men's Footwear

Those sketches were done by Kevin Dohn while he was at Puma. I think he's at Alpine Star now. He was a few years ahead of me at Cincy. Some the all time hottest sketches I've ever seen were done by that guy.

Re: Need help choosing my design internship

What a great problem to have! Congrats. I grew up a sneaker freak and had the chance to intern at Nike when I was in school and worked at IDEO for 4 years after graduation. No matter which internship you accept you'll be picking the right one. Every internship (no matter how big or small) is what yo...

Re: 30 and no design experience...

If footwear is what you want to do go all out. Don't worry about pigeon holing yourself. Why try to keep your options open if what you really want is to do shoes? I spent the early part of my career at consulting firms because I wanted to be well rounded and because I didnt know what I really wanted...

Re: 30 and no design experience...

I just took a look at your Coroflot portfolio and sketching blog. My first thought is that your actual sketches are nice. Good line work and energy. Proportions might need some work but a sketch is a sketch. Its about emotion and expressing an idea. I would say that your renderings take a step back ...

Re: Kenny Powers K-Swiss ad.

It's important to note that you and I didn't buy anything then and we probably wont be buying anything now either. The reality is that these commercials just give these shoes enough street cred to not make the pimply faced kid wearing them not feel like a complete loser when his mom picks them up of...

Re: Kenny Powers K-Swiss ad.

The KSwiss I remember are the white tennis shoes my catholic elementary school made every kid wear with their uniforms... bland and boring. In the last 5 years I think KSwiss was smart to try and own that preppy past in a more contemporary way, whether they were trying to make those classic "school ...
