Re: Wacom Cintiq

Savage,

I have the exact same MBP. I know you said you worked on large assemblies with no lag or problems. What type of assemblies are you working on and how many components on average are in your assemblies?

BTW, thank you very much for all of your input Savage and Andy.

Hello. I was asked by my employer what hardware and software I would need to perform my duties in the Industrial Designer role. When I submitted my list, I was asked about setting it up. This is where I am lost. I have never set up any hardware as the IT dept had it handled at my previous employers....

Would you agree the work Ross Lovegrove and his studio produce as high design?

Re: What are employers looking for in an ID Resume

I am of the belief that if I am going to have the title of designer, the very least I can do is have a well thought out resume. If this isn't in your wheelhouse, hire someone to do it. A very small price to pay. Think of it as an investment in yourself. For my resume, I based it off my family herita...

Re: Aluminum look to plastic

Bart, You could contact Northern Engraving. They supply many industries (automotive, home appliance, golf, etc.) with items you have described. Another process you could look at is called vapor deposition or chemical vapor deposition. It is somewhat analogous to powder coating. www.incertec.com I ho...

Re: Plastic tool box - what type of PP is appropriate

I remember having a discussion with a high-level executive from a very large tool brand. He was describing to me how fillers are being added to PP injection molded products. I believe the 'smoked' effect you've indicated is from one of these fillers, more precisely, talc. You get the added benefit o...

Re: Hardware suppliers for HighEnd briefcase / bags

Have you looked at ITWNexus? They do a lot work with police/military. Their stuff is well made and depending on what you need your buckles/snaps to do, they have high-performance materials with low infrared signature. If you're into that kind of stuff.  You could also try this Maker's R...

Re: 2 days in Chicago

Ok, I think everyone's covered what to see. Might I suggest a place to dine? It's called, Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder. It's on the 2100 block of N. Clark St. They serve pizza in ceramic bowls by the 1/2 pound or pound, cash only and have a Mediterranean bread that's amazing. If you're into Chicag...

Re: Design Recruiters

I know, right?

My wife and I are both from WI. Our families are still back there. We've reached a point where we've missed too many family reunions/weddings etc. One of my short term goals is to have a yard big enough to justify a riding lawn mower. ;)

Design Recruiters

I was wondering if any of you have worked with a specific design recruiter you would recommend. I'm thinking of relocating to the WI/IL area and would like to make some contacts, if possible.

Thank you very much for any information you may provide.

Re: HELP! Online Portfolio Required?

My mom is afraid to shop online, but thousands of people do it, don't worry, it will be fine. This made me laugh. I guess I'm not so concerned about the theft as much as the lack of knowledge. It sort of manifested itself into the 'old dog, new trick' realm and all the tools out there to complete a...

HELP! Online Portfolio Required?

I need some serious input regarding an online portfolio. I've noticed job posting requesting online portfolios. I currently have no online presence. I've always been very leery, call it paranoid of an online portfolio. Having work and or ideas pilfered, etc and more cynically, is this a way for them...
