Re: CAD Render-Rama

Not bad, although those suffer from low samples which is why we do not see any texture detail. I am currently working on a project involving fabric simulation and renderings. We are making use of the Keyshot Velvet shader which is quite impressive when tuned right. Here is a preview. Fabric renderin...

I was probably one of the first ones in Europe with the RAZR, then you saw it in the movies. Great phone for calling, even though the buttons look great typing was a bit cumbersome when intensely used.

Re: HELP with making the smart career decision for a baby designer

Hi, If the company's design style doesn't appeal to you, maybe you can change it? The best way is to go have the job interview and see if they like your work or sell a design style to them that you would like to pursue. More important than the money is how it is made. Are they doing good business wi...

Re: RESOURCES/ADVICE TO CREATE A TOOL FOR ID STUDENT

I can see the need for a CMF design tool and IDers being part of the market, but the solution is probably more IT / computer science related. I can see a tool or Photoshop plugin that provides different coloring strategies and creating custom pallettes with drag/drop interface which will involve adv...

Re: A.I. "designed" cars

I see it like that too, an insanely advanced tool. But we will never be able to appreciate an AI 'masterpiece' as some people can create, we are at least very far from that point. A computer simply does not have the comprehensiveness to fully understand what they are doing and be conscious of their ...

Re: Difference between Product Design and Industrial Design

With digital fabrication technologies, industrial designers are venturing into 3D printed end products. Designs becoming increasingly data-driven, new skills emerge for the industrial designer such as generative design, AI and product customisation. Because of the complexity of these products, more ...

Re: Post-Bach vs. Masters

In my experience it all comes down to if you are a match to the company and fit in with the people there in terms of personality, motivation and attitude. You have to sell yourself with your portfolio as your main companion. Hiring managers in my experience primarily focus on the conversation with y...

Re: Your favorite kitchenware product?

The Stelton EM77 Tea jug by Erik Magnussen. It has a physically small footprint, colors to match the interior and a well-balanced form design. Some people said they have been using the same one for almost 40 years, showing again that plastic products can be very durable.

Re: Sharing your salary with coworkers

I'm a Gen X/Y hybrid (one year more X, other year more Y..)...I feel comparing salaries is a bit old-fashioned, the millenials know they are going to make it big one day anyway right. As long as salaries are fair and nobody is being taken advantage of, it is good to be aware of each other's circumst...

Yes, I am learning to program that A.I. :) Also with a coupling towards manufacturing and developing knowledge on user requirements regarding customizers and generators.

I second that. Better to move forward from where you are. Think about new opportunities within the company as well while you are there, maybe there are ways to improve the commute?

Re: Mimitens Independent Designer vs. Big Brand

I think unfortunately this is a non story with someone who doesn’t understand how the design or legal process works. That's it. If we look at prior art this product wouldn't even be eligible to a utility patent. So..I hope she understands now what the I in IP stands for. We usually strive for radic...

Re: Good examples of ID portfolios

The best product design I see is a balance between remaining sensitive to the client's and consumer's wishes and daring to establish radically new concepts from the designer's own perspective. You want to be positively realistic but also make an impact with iconic design work taking into account the...
