Re: Pitching to a Design Firm

Mindtribe in San Francisco shares them for free on their website. http://www.mindtribe.com/resources/ If I were on the other end of your proposal I would be most curious about your financial situation-- how much do YOU think it will cost anddo you have enough...

Re: The bike guy's ID Portfolio

Thanks for sharing! What manner of job are seeking? Are you looking to stay in the bike world or go more mainstream ID (I think you should go work for SRAM/World Bicycle Relief simply because your headshot on your website looks a lot like FK Day) http://media.outsideonline.com/images/fkday2_sidebar....

Re: Galvanized paint finish

Looks like a textured/hammertone powder coat with a bit of gloss. Most any powder coat vendor will be able to provide something like this.

I recommend Cardinal Paint.

Re: Laptops with stickers on them..Unprofessional?

It depends on the situation. If you are consulting or freelancing then an assemblage of stickers is probably not appropriate (unless your personal brand is defined by such a thing and that is how you actively choose to market yourself). If you have decorated your laptop with a tasteful large-format ...

Re: Out of state job candidates

For hires in which I have been involved it was an issue in regards to the average salary for location from which the candidate was coming. We looked at people from all over the country but we were more likely to interview someone Ohio versus an equivalent candidate from New York. This was at a firm ...

Re: Car Grills

Injection molding items of this nature is common. The mold would probably have a lot of replaceable cores and might be gas-assisted to help fill things out.

Other items of similar size and complexity:
  • Pallets
  • Crates
  • Grating
  • Baskets

3D systems and Quickparts are the same company. It seems logical that you could get the part through Quickparts. If not, call the other hand and see where they have sold the machines.

Re: Custom Machined Barrel Nuts and Screws

Chainring fasteners are more often made from steel and aluminum than titanium. They are still quite expensive for a fastener, especially the titanium and aluminum ones. If you can find a source in Taiwan or China you might be able to get them direct from the manufacturer. The price I recall for a ch...

Re: How Big Can You Print in 3d vs. CNC

No pics!!!?!?!? I was in the market to steal a giant flat something or other but I guess I will have to find something else. For either process, no, not really. The additive machines will be limited by their build resolution but that will mostly hurt small features. Considering the size of your part...

Re: How Big Can You Print in 3d vs. CNC

Try these guys, Midwest Composite in Wisconsin: http://www.midwestcomposite.com/index.html They have you covered on either version. They have an FDM that reaches 24"x36"x24" and a CNC mill that can make parts 10'x23'x5' If you really want to go for the additive manufacturing solution, you can also t...
