Re: Low cost 3D printers

Thanks for the feedback Sain. Maybe I am jumping on the hype train. I will have to consider the costs and risks of these options, but the price point is so appealing. Maybe I should go with a printer currently on the market or wait till the early reviews of these Kickstarter ones come in and buy bas...

Low cost 3D printers

Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting one of the new wave of really cheap 3D printers to use for personal projects at home. I've been using Shapeways for my personal stuff and we have a Form 1 at work, so I'm just looking for a low cost filament based printer to experiment with so I don't have to deal wi...

I haven't had a chance yet to attend it myself, but I've heard good things about the The Dieline portion of the HOW Design Conference. https://www.eiseverywhere.com/ehome/91114

Free book of packaging dielines

Hey guys, I know Core77 has a few packaging designers on the forum so I thought i should share something we have been working on. Today the company I work at released a free ebook of packaging dielines featuring both standard and more eye catching designs: http://www.thedieline.com/blog/2014/11/10/p...

Re: OnePlus One design video

I don't get it. This a phone? What brand/model? R It's an Android Phone by a company called OnePlus: http://oneplus.net/one I do think the video wasn't that clear. It was all style and no substance, but even then it came across as amateurish compared to commercials from companies like Apple. I've h...

yo wrote:do you think they modified Jonathan Ive's voice in this video?

Are you talking about the way it was cut together?

Maybe that's the secret feature. You get Siri on your phone and Ive on your watch.

Re: Apple watch and new iphone

It may be getting a lukewarm response, but at least Apple is spreading design awareness by getting everyone to make physical size mockups before choosing which phone to get :D

Re: Creating a suede texture in Keyshot?

I've been able to create a ragged edge in keyshot with an opacity mask. I also was able to get a passable suede texture by messing with the default leather settings, but mileage may vary.

It's basically a vodka commercial but I enjoyed this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDboaDrHGbA

The retro futurism in this one was fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gxu248aD6PY

Don't forget the Form 1. We have one at work and it's pretty nice, but the material cost is fairly high.

Re: 3D Scanner Help

I'll have to experiment with 123D this weekend. Since I'll be using it for a 4 day event maybe renting something more professional would be an option, but I would hate to hit a snag the night before and not be able to fix it.

Re: 3D Scanner Help

I'm leaning towards Artec Studio with a Kinect for windows, but I'm not sure if there is a more detailed option out there. Does photogrammetry provide good geometry detail, or is it mostly the quality of the textures it lays over it? Also out of the two would the kinect or the photogrammetry take lo...

3D Scanner Help

Hey guys, I'm doing some preliminary research for a project that would use a 3D scanner to create full color full body 3D prints of people through Shapeways. Do any of you have experience or 3D scanner recommendations? Level of detail is important, but this would be out of pocket so a sub $1000 solu...

Re: Miniature feedback

I just finished these little Meeples (pawn or people tokens for board games) It was good practice getting clean smooth surfaces to blend together correctly, even if at that scale you might not notice the difference.

Re: UDK - Unreal Development Kit as design instrument

Very interesting idea. Does it take tons of extra work to get something useful out of the kit, or do you feel that it is something that could gradually integrate into your workflow as you get more familiar with it? To bad I'm not working on anything large scale enough to justify trying this out. I g...
