What determines the exact size/tolerances of a product?

Non-Industrial Designer here, might be a dumb question. Who determines the exact dimensions of a product? Using a phone as an example, do the designers give requirements to engineers who might have some wiggle room as to how everything comes together, or is it the other way around? I know it probabl...

Re: Are there any well designed printers?

Considering how complex printers are, I think a lot of them are designed and engineered well but could use a redesign of the user interface. Often settings between the computer and the printer have to match exactly to have a successful print, and it would be nice to tell a printer what your end prod...

Re: How do you join foam core edges?

Then I press both edges so that it appears 90 degrees like in iab's post and the foam will fold easily. I use a ...

Re: Mattress shopping......why all the BS?

I feel the same way, I'm sleeping on an old stiff mattress and I'm not sure what to upgrade to. I was in Sears and can't really tell what I like just from laying on it. A friend of mine has an Ikea Hansbo and I'm considering that one, anyone recommend Ikea? One option is to buy something a little ch...

Re: please help and support my kickstarter project

This isn't the best place to get exposure, people here are more interested in your design process. That being said I like the solid construction and am definitely a fan of thin wallets, I currently use a small leather sleeve. But I wouldn't use this product because it would leave my Honda Civic key ...

Just experimented with multiple desktops, seems it could be either really helpful or really confusing, but it's an easy 4 finger swipe.

Re: Bike tool/bottle opener Kickstarter- Bring on the critiq

There are plenty of excellent multi-tool options that can fit in a small bike bag. That being said, what about a champagne bottle with an emergency valve for quick tire fills :o

Check out what Fairdale is doing. Taj came from the bmx industry so he is definitely building solid bikes. I haven't ridden one yet but I'd like to.
