Re: Vancouver, things to do

you've got to try japadogs, they're street dogs japanese style. they put sauces, seaweed, all kinds of awesome stuff on them and they're delicious. i can't remember where the stands are, but downtown if you see anyone eating a hot dog, just ask them haha.. and i guess you could check out a hockey ga...

Re: Concussions in Sports

Kerry Fraser wrote an interesting article on TSN: http://tsn.ca/blogs/kerry_fraser/?id=365674 he talked about how the lockout caused a "feeling out" period with the players and refs on what would and wouldn't be called, and as they had less tolerance for hooking and obstruction, they let players sta...

Re: do portfolios have to be so specific?

i think that one intangible that they might be looking at is your fit with their team as well as your skills, and the fit is more important ;) when i started working at Warrior i learned that the company operates like a hockey team; every day is like spending the day in the locker room, so there's a...

Re: Concussions in Sports

@joyride, the helmets are HECC approved but HECC doesn't test the helmet on whether it can reduce the chance of concussion.

ive seen a puck cannon shoot at 105 mph... the level of violence when you're watching it up close is shocking.

Re: Concussions in Sports

haha.. nothing against big bert, he's just the first that came to mind. its kind of funny how huge his gloves are to protect his hands, but he wears a small or medium size helmet. i would say that it's incorrect that only the athlete and the agent are hurt by an injury though; the Penguins, fans, an...

Re: Concussions in Sports

i work in the hockey industry, and as far as preventing concussions, helmets aren't going to do much.. they're not CSA or HECC certified to do anything that reduces your chances of a concussion, only to prevent lacerations/skull fracture. there's a company that came out with a helmet they claimed wo...

Re: New BMW marketing : JOY (?)

it reminds me of nissan's "shift_inspiring word" and mitsubishi's "drive@earth" campaigns.. although i never really understood why you would want to drive "at" the earth, that doesn't make literal sense.

Re: Virgin Galactic's Spaceship Two

that's way better looking than spaceship one! the nose looks like a dolphin or something.. kind of like a citation excel, but with space shuttle windows. if this eventually evolves into commercial flight, i'd love to go toronto-hong kong or toronto-japan in 6 or 7 hours, instead of the 15-20 it take...

Re: Design related movies...

continuing on the "one man's dream" film, you might like "love the beast" it's definitely a car-guy movie, its a documentary about eric bana and his first car, a ford falcon that he bought when he was 15. he's had it now for 25 years, and he and his friends rebuilt it 3 or 4 times, eventually turnin...

http://www.fastcompany.com/design/2009/featured-story-david-butler?partner=mod you might find this article helpful, it's from Fast Company's Masters of Design page. David Butler reflects on how he got design and brand unity to be understood at Coke (and there's a few digs at Arnell+Pepsi in there, ...

thats pretty tough, is there any chance that you might be able to study abroad somewhere for a semester? i have a few friends that weren't enjoying design anymore, but went to italy during junior year and came back with fire in the belly. they've gone on to great jobs that match what they wanted to ...
