Re: What's in your toolbox? (literally and figuratively)

Ill let others chime in on the specifics, but my biggest piece of advise is to know maintenance of all the equipment you will use. Know how to keep your tools sharp and clean. More importantly than functioning better, they will be safer to use. I cant tell you how many times I saw someone shoving al...

Re: Refining my product

Finally a kickstarter campaign that actually is involved in the process rather than just advertising their product...

Was this the first item you had patented? How did you feel the process was? Was there anything that you had learned that you would do next time?

Re: Show your designs!

Thats a nice piece! Normally Im not a fan of oak, but that looks very nice. What is the finish on it? oil/wax? I really like the fit/finish of the foot as well. I imagine working with that large of a top sheet added some challenges. Did you consider miter-folds rather than butt joints?

Re: New Google Chromebooks

You cant edit? I was able to open a docx through drive and it asked to convert the file to edit. Once I converted, it allowed me to make any edits I needed. All fonts/content were correct. I havent tried it with an excel sheet yet, so I dont know how it will convert that. As far as the OS goes, you ...

Re: Steampunk Urban Vinyl Toys

Im curious as to what the design brief was for this? What was the process to get to the final design? What were some of the other concepts, and why did you go with this one? Why a pirate and a space guy/scuba diver? How do you plan on selling these?

Re: Home Vs Cinema

I havent been to a theater in a long time. However, I will agree that there are certain films that are better for the big screen. Any film relying heavily on the visual element will be best in IMAX/3D. The vision aspect of films is still outside of the typical consumer reach as far as bringing it in...

Re: Raynaud's Disease - hand & foot-warmers

I would kill for a heated mouse some days....My right hand is somehow ALWAYS colder than the left at work. I assume this is due to the constant movement and open palm position, where as my left is usually somewhat clenched and stagnant around CTRL-Z.

Re: Thinking of getting a new ride

My wife just got a flex, and she couldnt be happier with it. The interior has some really good features that you can tell designers had a hand in. The function of it is unbelievable without being too 'minivan-ish'. I just wish we could have gotten one of the new ones. The detailing on the front end ...

Re: Photoshop moving layers (slightly) when file gets big

Are you maybe have auto select layer on? Sometimes it will select that layer and you will move it a little. Since these are most likely transparency layers, you may be selecting them and moving them slightly on accident. It happens to me a lot. Most times i catch it, but sometimes I have to go back ...

Re: Thinking of getting a new ride

I've always been a bigger fan of the Euro plates. The aspect ratio on the front seems much more fitting than the size the US has. Also, graphically speaking, am I the only one that sees US plates getting worse and worse? The colors are terrible, and they are getting more 'flashy' (more visual noise)...

Re: Nest Thermostat 2.0

So all the algorithms and computations are done inside the nest, and not outsourced to a cloud computer? Non-local would be a deal breaker for me. However, one of my other concerns is with auto away. Do they use IR to sense people home? Im guessing it would pick up my (currently) 110 lb dane puppy, ...

Re: Nest Thermostat 2.0

Ive been eyeing the nest, but really find it hard to justify the cost. My $30 normal digital one has somehow gotten a mind of its own and will change the temp at a random time that it isnt set for, so Im looking for a replacement. I just dont know if the extra $200 will really pay itself off. The wi...

Re: Shopping checkouts and perception

My company is currently testing this at select stores as well. You scan the UPC with the bar code and then type in your phone number at check out and it loads it all up. The infrastructure involved with it is a major upgrade for stores (you have to run it on a wifi network throughout stores), plus y...

Re: Thinking of getting a new ride .... carbon edition

Finally finished my search and couldnt be happier. Ended up with a BMC SLC01 Pro Machine with full red group. I was initially hesitant with the sram, but they shift so much better than the Force that I tried. Plasma bars, Ksyrium wheels and Zero G brakes puts it just over 14 lbs. You werent kidding ...
