Re: Molded In Hinges (not live hinges)

Yeah, definitely good next steps. I was just hoping to google and find some info to quickly determine if there were any glaring errors before I put the time into CAD and prototyping. But it probably shouldn't be too much time to do that.

Molded In Hinges (not live hinges)

Hey guys, I'm working on a project that requires a simple hinge mechanism to connect two injection molded parts. I started looking into simple folded metal hinges, but I think I want something with a bit more premium feel. I thought about molded in hinges (like the ones on dewalt drill cases shown b...

Re: iPad Pro + Pencil + Procreate

I use the first gen ipad pro, with Sketchbook, mostly (Procreate occasionally). As far as getting files out, I love using Slack. Sketchbook has a really nice share integration with Slack, and in seconds, I've shared the sketches with everyone on the team. Pretty nice.

Re: Connecting Soft goods to Plastic pieces

Laser cut adhesive sheets sounds interesting. Do you have any info on that, or is it a pretty standard process vendors would understand? Also I'm thinking more about thinning the plastic out and sewing through it as I've figured out some more of the details, it seems more and more possible. Are ther...

Re: Connecting Soft goods to Plastic pieces

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'll look into a mechanical lock of some sort. The fabric edge does show, so I'd rather not use glue to make sure that there's no quality issues. Plus I think a secondary plastic piece might finish it off nicely. The suggestion of looking at snowboard bindings is a ...

Connecting Soft goods to Plastic pieces

Hey guys, I'm a product designer with only a little experience with soft goods. I'm working on a system that is mostly hardgoods, but has a softgood element that I need to attach. I've done a little drawing (with any sensitive information removed) to show how the system works, and how I need to atta...

123D make by autodesk. Just make a form in rhino and import, 123d make does the rest and even lays it flat out for you

WOW! I've been looking for a tool like that for a while. definitely going to give that a shot.

Re: Creating Panels in CAD

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Louis Leblanc, I've never used scripts before, but you've laid it out pretty well, so I'll give it a try. I think I should be able to get something to work. It'll be a while before its up, We're still in the demolition / cleaning out stages of an old Transmission...

Thanks for the reply. I got that part. I was looking for something that could quickly export the 2D profile of each panel.

Creating Panels in CAD

Hey guys, I'm working on an interior for a new space for my company. We want to have CNC routed plywood panels that are mounted parallel to each other, and spaced evenly, to create wall texture / shelving over the kitchen counter area. Something similar to this: https://static.dezeen.com/uploads/201...

Re: A few thoughts on form

I have designed a few products, nearly the same in functionality, but in regards to user interface, completely different. The more minimal designed product actually required some detail instruction for the end user to be able to understand how to use it, while the complex design appeared the most m...

Re: Design newbie looking for advice on starting a portfolio

Welcome to the Core Boards! I think the two biggest things you have to consider are 1. who is your audience, and 2. what are you passionate about. Think about who will be looking at the portfolio at the university and what types of things they may be looking for. Most universities will not be lookin...

Re: Nick Cannon Joins RadioShack As Chief Creative Officer

A colleague and I were just talking about radio shack's plight the other day. I'm curious what you guys think about a strategy that could pull them out of the hole? I feel like they need to focus their market on the constantly growing maker community. Right now, they're so confused, like; "well, peo...

Re: Back from the Grave

That's funny. And a good spot. The cross section of people who LOVED the Atari Jaguar enough to know its form and people who pay enough attention to the form of dental imaging equipment is probably pretty small. I'm with Cyberdemon though, I think it could be legit. I'm actually working on a speaker...
