Anything you enjoy doing and is a challenge is worth doing.

Re: Super Bowl XLVI Commercials

Sorry, I've got to say this one trumps it by a long run:

Puke.

All jokes aside, I'm excited for the onslaught.

10-15 per project? That's way too much.

Re: Durable, hard wearing Android Smartphone WANTED

Otterbox works. It's really ugly, but it works. One of my classmates had a bright pink one and she dropped it all the time. My other friend has a double case by another manufacturer that's made for construction workers (he's a civil engineer). It has a thick plastic case and a silicone case on the o...

Seconded Cyberdemon. All PCs are basically the same specs at that price point. Pick one with a design you like, feels sturdy, and is comfortable to type/touchpad.

Re: 1yr experience Industrial Design Salary

How much is the Visa? You can factor that into your salary, I suppose, but still ask for a higher one minus the visa price.

Re: Need help choosing my design internship

Really depends on what you want to do. You should ask about what types of project you'll be on. Sometimes interns are only on internal projects. Sometimes they just do busywork. Sometimes they get to participate in really big client projects... It'll depend on what you want to do. A big distinction ...

Why did you hide the methane port at the top behind the shield? It's the main interaction the users will have. Why not highlight it more?

Get yourself Keynote and do some animations. For UI like this, it's always good to show videos to demonstrate animation. UI is not just about visual design or information architecture, but motion and sounds, too.

Re: Help with a Tough College Decision

Recent grad from CMU. Solid program where you'll learn a lot about process and interaction design (even though you're in the ID program) which will help you get a job. Absolutely zero taste in aesthetics/viable technical skills (CAD, sketching) - you'll have to work on those by yourself. Professors ...

Re: Guilt app

Do you mean Gilt? Yes, they are good deals but you're going to end up spending lots of money because everything is so tempting. They have great service. Once in a while they'll have a warehouse sale (they're based in NYC). I un-bookmarked in 2009 cause I kept buying new sneakers. If you want to spen...

Re: Help need in School's Project

The first sentence you said is so, so broad. Any project could do that. Do you like traveling? Is that something you are passionate about and want to spend months researching, designing, developing? If the answer is no, then look elsewhere.

Re: Help need in School's Project

Problem finding is one of the most valuable skills a designer can have. I would recommend that you look at your own passions. What do you want to spend your final year designing? What do you think you could improve? Don't just ask for suggestions and pick a topic someone else gives you. For example,...

Re: Superimposing hands into 3D models/renderings for contex

I usually do it the other way: I have the rendering first, and then I set up a shoot in similar lighting (at least direction of primary light, so shadows are the same direction). I usually have the rendering next to me so I can position my hand "over" the photograph and holding a prototype or someth...
