Maker Space

I just found out about a cool maker space in the suburbs of the city I live in. It's open until 8pm 7 days and membership is $11 a week. Thinking of joining up. I've been trying to work out how to fund a home workshop to build furniture and other products, but this could get me started without the i...

Re: Culture at your company

We have a pizza oven, great garden, no dress code, friday pub lunches and a drinks cart. A good coffee machine we can hit up any time and a full fruit bowl at all times. No "why were you late?", "that was a long lunch", "where were you/where are you going?" like I've had in every other job.

Re: Newly Released Work (All Product Types)

My latest and nearly last commercial furniture design for my current employer. After 4 years in commercial furniture, I'm moving on to a small branding studio to do exhibition/signage and focus on more sustainable, small production, locally sourced timber furniture in my home workshop. Have one more...

Re: Rogue One Discussions: SPOILER ALERT!

I was told by a friend that R1 was crap so had low expectations going in. Loved K2, Chirrut and Baze because I'm and IP man fan. The battle scenes were epic. Love Ben Mendleson because I'm an Aussie. If anyone on here hasn't seen his early work like Idiot Box get into it. Great movie. Will definitel...

Re: Non-design activities/obsessions

This sourdough hobby is paying off. http://imgur.com/a/riNS8 http://imgur.com/a/PFNzH I might even quit design and become a baker. Working with dough is much more enjoyable than designing sheet metal patterns for workstation screen mounting brackets. Maybe even more lucrative. 8) Vote for my C...

Re: Non-design activities/obsessions

Haha. I live in the Adelaide Hills in Australia and there are about 15 large radiata pines on our property so we get literally hundreds of pine mushrooms (saffron milk caps) every winter. We have a very limited amount of porcini in the Adelaide Hills too and I went looking for them in winter withou...

Re: Non-design activities/obsessions

The sourdough starter is kicking along nicely but I need a free weekend to do some baking. My combo cooker arrives in a few weeks... Exciting. I subscribe to the tenet that good bread is hard/crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is quite difficult to find such an animal in the US. And ...

This bit is to Book Book what Samsung is to iPhone. Colbert should have to pay IKEA for the touch page technology infringement.

I say follow your interests with the bread thing! Maybe there's a reason your mind is being drawn to the subject. Exploring that will open new doors, or at the very least, provide you with some high-quality grub and a great smelling kitchen :) For me, it's mushrooms. What started as a general curio...

01 dimensioning instrument

Thoughts from an ID toolkit pint of view?

My opinion is that it would be great for tradespeople in softgoods/upholstery pattern measuring.

Non-design activities/obsessions

I have been soul searching for a while and have come to the conclusion that I'm not doing enough with my hands. I design furniture as an industrial designer at work, and while I enjoy seeing my products released and being sold and made in our factory, it's a very hands off approach. Before becoming ...

Re: Microsoft Surface Studio

For over $5000 Australian dollars, I'd want 64gb of ram like my current work pc has so I can do modo renderings while running solidworks. My 3 year old work pc is a i7 4930K 3.40GHz with 6 dual thread cores, so I can run renders in modo whicle 3d modelling in solidworks and having photoshop and illu...
