Re: AUDI new design language

Back on topic: does anyone on this board know enough about automotive sheet metal manufacturing to comment on the feasibility of some of the Audi Prologue surfaces, primarily the extremely sharp corners, for example at the inner corners of the headlamps? And, will there be door handles? I'm guessin...

Re: Interstellar: A new low in Concept Design ?

I thought the robot was excellent concept design, given the context of the film. I really liked how it rolled in the water planet scene. The simple form of an exponentially divisible rectangular box much is more versatile, especially from a story-telling perspective, than a an assemblage of parts an...

Re: Transferring school from CCS

Linked in just rated CCS in the top 5 ID schools in the country. Based on careers of alumni. CCA and Ohio state are not on there. My alma mater, CMU, is top on the list! Every 'best of' list is completely subjective and subject to the whims or what lens they are being looked at thru. That being sai...

Re: Transferring school from CCS

Why not stay at CCS (the alma mater of my ID degree) and move from trans to product? Its my alma mater too (trans major), and have worked in the car industry since. With the ID program half full of people who are actual aspiring designers not wanting to work on cars and half full of aspiring car st...

Re: Pratt and Auto Design Jobs

It all depends on the quality, and breadth of your porftfolio I suppose, but is it possible? Yes.

The Lead Designer of the C7 Corvette interior is Pratt graduate http://www.autonews.com/article/2014040 ... an-vaughan

where to source this material?

Hey, so I saw these shoes in a pop up store, and realized that the ribbon that's woven between the upper and lower of this shoe is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for, for a non-footwear related project. Any experts here know where I could source such a thing or what its called in the industry...

Re: Nokia Releases 3D Files.

Cool start of the next phase of consumer engagement. Nokia releases 3D files of its new phone for custom case building by 3D printers. http://techcrunch.com/2013/01/18/nokia-releases-3d-print-files-for-lumia-820-smartphone-got-a-3d-printer-custom-print-your-own-removable-shell/ now if only motorola...

Re: 2014 Corvette

Here are some in-person shots to counter the renders: http://jalopnik.com/5975849/pr0n/gallery/1 It would also appear that, from the driver's seat at least, the 'pinch' detail on the passenger side trim is almost irrelevant thanks to the sweeping form of the controls designed to face the pilot. htt...

Re: 2014 Corvette

Excited to see one in person, but still on the fence about a lot of the details. I'm not a Corvette guy but the square Camaro-ish tail lights look too fussy, especially with the extra venting details framing them. I think I'd prefer to have seen an evolution of the cleaner iconic "double rounds" in...

Re: Cardboard Bicycle

It's an amazing feet for a guy with a workshop building something with an unlikely material.....especially considering it was done mostly by eye and feel, not software. This is trial and error, garage-engineering-for-the-hell-of-it, at its best. That being said, It was a cool project, nothing more. ...

Re: The most BEAUTIFUL BICYCLE

to quote bikesnobnyc it does look "laterally stiff and vertically compliant". though probably way too much so, with that unsupported seat tube. the carbon's clearcoat isn't going to look very good all scuffed up by the rear tire.

Re: Top Global Design Clusters - where are they?

if your counting automotive design, you can't count out Detroit, though we do more than just cars too.

this event is coming up, though this may be more grassroots design oriented than you are looking for http://www.detroitdesignfestival.com/

Nice short of 9 small business start ups in Detroit. [vimeo]http://vimeo.com/35707672[/vimeo] if you're ever at Supino (the pizzeria featured) grab a cannoli for desert, my girlfriend makes them. I have the pleasure of knowing several people in the vid, all genuine, hard working and dedicated folks...

been in the city since starting at CCS in '98.

It's a f-ucked up and amazing place all at the same time.
It's also cheap as hell to live here, so that helps.

Re: New Vans a step in the right direction or a step to far?

I'm not a big sneaker hound, and I haven't skated in years, but I love the new direction. Classic vans are great, but I've longed for a a more modern take on the classic vans white foxing and waffle sole, and some more modern features/support. I like the durability of skate shoes, but not the bulkin...
