Re: Public Restroom Design

I like the concept and the story boards. Clearly explained and a good balance of aesthetic and psychological improvements. I think it might be even greener to use waterless urinals http://www.waterless.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3&Itemid=114 The "watered level meter" makes me gigg...

Re: Presenting & Displaying Work in a Digital Workflow

Printing every 3 hours? I'm curious, how many people and how many pages is that? I imagine that depending on the stage in the process and the project, this would vary. Sometimes I get in a groove, and can't stand someone tapping me on the shoulder all the time. I guess if I'm a junior and need const...

Re: TILT?

YEs, SBP 2010, and 2011 have rotate canvas. It appears on the puck that pops up when you hold the spacebar down. You don't need a powerful video card to use it, just one with plenty of RAM! SBP basic rotates the image in OpenGL and thus the whole image has to be inserted into texture memory. If you ...

Re: Help! Need a new laptop I can use to draw with

Skinny, That's great to hear. I didn't mean to sound too harsh in my critique of the m7 (I'm using a 3.5 year old laptop that works just fine btw,) It will for sure work great with software from it's era which for most of us will still get the job done. I'm sure you'll agree, though, that software e...

Re: where are you from ?

OH NO! You forgot the middle verse (edited out of the intro in syndication!) I begged and pleaded with her day after day But she packed my suite case and sent me on my way She gave me a kiss and then she gave me my ticket. I put my walkman on and said, 'I might as well kick it'. First class, yo this...

Re: Help! Need a new laptop I can use to draw with

Hey Nick, Yup, what cyber said pretty much. You can still find the old 14" tecra m7 online (used) for $400-$500 but keep in mind it's 5 years old and won't be much good. The new modbook pro set to be released this spring is look like a kickass piece of hardware, but it's also $5k.... The modbook is ...

Re: Semantics: Elegance vs Simplicity

I know this thread is dead, but I want to add something to it. I just read Stephen Hawking's "The Grand Design" this past weekend, and near the beginning is a section that discussing the standard model (and scientific models in general) The first requirement of a good model is that it is elegant. Th...

Re: best settings to create small but quality PDFs

for 75 pages, it'll be tough to get it much smaller. I'm surprised you got it down to 8mb. To get the smallest size PDF, you basically need to export as screen res jpgs (max quality) so that they are flattened. (your text will also be rasterized) Use Acrobat to combine these into a single PDF, and y...

Though, if you have a bunch of work on the table right now and he has trouble finding a replacement, it may be in your favor to be the "good guy," suck it up an...

Re: Unemployed not an option on the salary survey?

that's why I said that by checking unemployed, your $0 doesn't get included in the average (exclude from the data set) I understand that this is a salary survey, not an employment survey. I just think that it would be an interesting metric to capture considering this is an often discussed topic, and...

Re: Unemployed not an option on the salary survey?

exactly, there should be an "unemployed, seeking work" checkbox that doesn't get averaged into the data, but at least records the number and region of unemployed designers.

I'll admit, the request struck me as odd too. I would have expected him to use the forums first to get traction / interest and then post on the core blog afterwards.
