Re: Longest continuously manufactured products

Ural - in production since 1941. (Yes yes I know, BMW designed and produced the original but only for a few years) https://static1.squarespace.com/static/58c1ef5abf629ab8bade3657/58f5226d9de4bbb38c05a81e/58f5226d9de4bbb38c05a81d/1490312007780/hero-lg.jpg AK47 since 1949 (to 1974 by OEM) https://uplo...

http://hultsbruk1697.se/wp-content/uploads/aneby01.png The Hults Bruk story begins in 1697, hand forging steel and iron with water driven hammers. Over the last three centuries, Hults Bruk has perfected the art of designing and manufacturing premium Swedish axes. Today the factory is a compelling c...

Re: Project: 1 Strike Hammer

Brass hammers are actually not uncommon. They're considered a "soft face" hammer where you strike other metals. They're also considered "sparkless", meaning they won't throw an accidental spark. Common on oil rigs. Since brass deforms, the plates are replaceable - much like your design. Not a fan of...

Re: Adobe CC file access in China?

If I was in your spot I wouldn't rely on any "confirmation" unless someone was dealing with the exactly same factory. I've been able to access stuff like wetransfer at one place and not the other, so any confirmation of "wetransfer 100% works in China" would've been false. I guess same applies to AC...

Re: A Macbook pro?

On magnetic power cord: that has got to be the weirdest design decision ever made by Apple. It was their single hardware USP which amazingly noone copied (to my knowledge), and now that it's gone I haven't heard of a single person who's happy about it. It has to be someone's ego behind it all.. On a...

Re: Newly Released Work (All Product Types)

Craftsman's pencil. We wanted to combine the classic builder's pencil with the classic school pencil. Ergonomics and anti-roll was primary for the pencil, but for the holster we could be more playful with the form. The round hole functions as the locking mechanism with a nice tactile click. It would...

Re: Machines v. Humans

Perhaps this is off topic, but I can't stand the humanisation of the smart phone interfaces. Reading "The clock is now a quarter past five" is cute 1 time, but pretty annoying in the long run.. "17.15" may be soulless but actually give me more peace of mind. Not to mention Siri. I don't need to talk...

I'm holding out until I can place a regular order instead of pre-order. Or an App-version.

http://cpetry.github.io/NormalMap-Online/ That's a cool tool, thank's for sharing that! OP: Maxwell Render used to have a huge user generated material library free of charge. I haven't checked it for a couple years so don't know for sure, but check it out. You will have to grab the textures and rec...

Re: Engagement Ring Design

Nice! Love the ring, congratulations! I did this as well during spring, and got married this summer. In Sweden we have a different tradition - both parties get an engagement ring. Then the groom keeps the same ring, and the wife gets a second ring. That's why we designed our rings together, so all 3...

Re: "Volvo" Polestar 1 Hybrid car

I agree. It's in a direction that most are not going ...restrained, non-aggressive, non-robot-spaceship looking .... actual surfaces and panels with no toy-like Iron glowing bits. Too bad it's super low volume (500) and the Polestar (not Volvo) brand make it relatively a non-thing as far as actual ...

Re: Product design guidelines similar to branding manuals ?

Also sometimes cold DLS, Design Language System. There was a thread awhile back on this and some folks found or posted examples. Yeah, the examples were Kitchen Aid by Ziba, and 3Com by Mark Wilson (@IDEO I think). I still have those PDFs tucked away some place, although they're probably just as ea...
