Re: continue studying?

I know many people who studied industrial design and ended up doing other things in their careers. The same goes for people who didn't study design, but ended up working in design. The design education you are getting in ID will translate to other design fields, you might just need to fill in the ga...

Re: Am I too old to start an I.D. degree program?

That probably varies by University. Just depends. In my class we had people who were from 22-45 at graduation time. I graduated at 29.

Re: Project Management Exp.

It's a fact of life that you can't plan everything. Sometimes thing change mid project and you have to switch gears. I would just try not to sound negative about the fact that things changed. Instead, maybe use it as an opportunity to highlight how well you handled that situation and what the outcom...

Greenman: I come from a "poor" family and I have to disagree with your statement. Poor people don't necessarily lack intelligence. Many are only victims of their social environment. I know plenty of people who are extremely intelligent, but who had to sacrifice their education (at a very early age [...

Re: Addicted to CAD?

Ah yes, I've had the "dream" before. Funny thing about that is that solutions to complex modeling problems have come to me in my sleep. Apparently the subconscious mind is very good at this. I can't remember where, but I once read an article about how some of the most famous inventions of the centur...

Re: The Brief DVD - Volume 2?

I bought the DVD and enjoyed it. For me, what was missing was actual commentary while the designers were working. I would have liked to know what was going through their minds...maybe explain why they decided on a certain method or why they made certain design choices.

Re: To intern or not to intern?

sprockets: your suggestion would be the last resort. I have been working in the engineering side long enough to know that it's not what I want to do with my career. I am willing to take the pay cut, start at the bottom, etc. that would be required for the career change, but I don't want to continue ...

Re: To intern or not to intern?

Wanting to be a designer is what made me quit my good paying, full time job and go to school full time for 4 years. The difference now is that I can't rely on financial aid to make it through.

You do bring up a good point though. I'll have to decide what's more important to me in the end.

Thanks.

To intern or not to intern?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any advice or has been in a similar situation. I currently have a permanent job, which pays my rent and bills, but it's not in the design field--It's in the mechanical engineering field. I'm looking to get into the design field, yet it seems like most pl...

Re: Question about Mentors?

It's definitely a good idea to introduce yourself and utilize your mentor as a resource. Your mentor can offer you advice and direction on projects, and more importantly portfolio. If you are lucky, this person will have years of real-world experience and could even be the key person to getting your...
