Re: When can I expect to start making decent money?

Agreed, bcpid; good advice! But also keep in mind that there are dozens of other small consultancies in coast cities doing the same thing (underpaying and exploiting) and getting away with it because more times than not, most young out-of-school designers can't afford to just wait around for the 70K...

Re: When can I expect to start making decent money?

Designasks: I definitely feel your pain; as I am a native NY'er whose first design opportunities were in major design meccas (NYC, Seattle and Chicago); both corporate and consultancy. After graduating in 2011, the competition was so fierce in NYC (even after meeting with design directors and gettin...

Re: Anyone wear Progressive Glasses along with Contact Lense

Ok, not much help from this forum, but after going to Lenscrafters and getting my Progressives with the clear top portion and prescription only on the bottom portion; I can attest that this is working for me well... in case anyone else is seeking this particular option. Just had to update everyone o...

Anyone wear Progressive Glasses along with Contact Lenses?

So glad there is an off-topic section here! So, as an aging designer, I am starting to encounter presbyopia (needing reading glasses) for small print. I already have messed up distance vision and have been wearing contacts for as long as I can remember. So far my option has been to buy readers (I ha...

Re: Design Jobs in Florida?

I love to resuscitate an old post now and then and this one peaked my curiosity after typing a search for "Florida" and "design". I've been wondering for a long time now; since entering into ID, why ID is not represented as much in the state of FL? There are a few well-known housewares companies in ...

Re: Which US ID program is best for an older guy?

ID people tend to be the ones who can't leave well enough alone. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't really apply to our mode of thinking...we're ALWAYS looking to make something better, even if it is already good. We're typically extremely curious about the world around us and are constantly...

Re: Seeking career direction advice.

Bepster, Thank you for your suggestions. I've private messaged you with more in-depth details regarding my situation, but what you've just detailed is what I've already known and am currently doing, but it is still great to hear that what I am doing is good, so I will keep up the efforts. I guess I ...

Seeking career direction advice.

Hello all: I am in need of some advice and direction. I will be so grateful to any shared personal experiences related to this matter (and I apologize in advance for its lengthiness): I've been almost 3 years post-grad and interestingly still trying to find my way; so to speak. I've done a few contr...

Great explanation of the Zebra's Mike! I also found this one cool article that explains it visually with found real-life objects (scroll down to the bottom): http://blog.capinc.com/2011/06/solidwor ... is-smooth/

Fascinating stuff! I am on my way to grasping this! Thank you!

Re: c0, c1, c2 and c3?! Yikes!

Thank you for those resources, Mike. So appreciate it. I will look them over now and see what I grasp and get back if I have any questions. I see that the one Core 77 article you shared talks about those darn "zebras", as I never understood how to read them. Hopefully that should help. Have a great ...

c0, c1, c2 and c3?! Yikes!

Ok, now that I have your attention! :) I'd like to ask if anyone can provide some resources (book, video, Powerpoint?) for understanding surfacing continuity that is easy to wrap my brain around? I am a Rhino person; and though out of ID school 2 + years, I still haven't been able to grasp this impo...

Re: Raymond Loewy for Le Creuset!

Ha. Interesting. I also do the same with some well-made "heirloom" objects I've accumulated over time, that I want to "show off" to guests. But that is what happens when something is so well designed and aesthetically beautiful, you want to display it whenever you can! On a side note, I have a frien...

Re: Raymond Loewy for Le Creuset!

Wow, iab... I didn't notice the price until now! I didn't say I could afford to spend that much money for cast iron cookware; even if designed by Loewy! ;) Maybe someday, but not now. But you are right. It does keep us employed; our expensive tastes. And we are all guilty of it. Though from my exper...

Raymond Loewy for Le Creuset!

Thanks to Michael DiTullo for mentioning this on Twitter, but I had no idea Raymond Loewy designed cast iron cookware for Le Creuset! I discover something new everyday! http://www.lecreuset.com/content_le-creuset-coquelle

It's so friggin' gorgeous! But then again, I love my housewares. :)
