Re: Thinking of a new ride: wagon edition

I've seen a lot of nice BMW e46 wagons, and yes even just two days ago a very nice e39 wagon. finding one without a lot of miles is the trick as they can be costly to maintain.

Re: Design contests

I agree, since when do any of us want to do work for free, we are "design competitioning" ourselves right out of jobs. The companies sponsoring these things are laughing all the way to the bank.

Re: Functional Portfolio

One of the most important skills you need as a designer is to communicate your ideas clearly and concisely in a visual manner. Your portfolio should be able to show all of your skills in that fashion. Your thought process, research, ideation, prototyping, 3D Visualization, and Graphic skills. Employ...

Re: New Windows 8 logo -beautiful or ugly?

I'm not crazy about it but I do like the minimalist approach. Maybe Pentagram can bring some style and sophistication to the bland UI world of Microsoft as well. I'll take a stab... maybe something like this:

Re: Plywood supplier in San Diego

Frost hardwoods off Miramar rd has some 3 ply bendable sheet in 1/8th inch and they also carry hardwood veneers. Don't think they have the epoxy resin but if it's not super rigid you may be able to use just wood glue. other than that no-one I have found in San Diego carries anything in thinner ply. ...

Re: Iphone 4s design

"Can you, or anyone else here quantify "more durable"? Can anyone explain to me why Apple seems to be the the target of everyone's ire here? Their product is no less durable than any other product based on my experience and my survey of many individuals around me. Is there some kind of market resea...

Re: Iphone 4s design

The point I was trying to make and I agreed with the original post, was that in order for the design to be considered successful you have to consider more than the aesthetics of the product. You can't ignore the end user or you have failed in your design. Just because something looks good on the tab...

Re: Iphone 4s design

I was just thinking the same thing. I love the design simplicity of the IP4 but is it really good industrial design if it has to be covered up by a hulking mass to protect it? I had a nice gouge on the back of mine after 1 week from having it in my pocket so now i cover it in a minimal plastic case....

Re: Detroit show 2012

Nice, a Chevy 1 series, and a Ford DB9. The TRU 140 is interesting though. There was some back story to the Corvette emblem if you read the originating web article. Talks about the emblems being on several sport models in the beginning and then disappearing on all except for the corvette. So I guess...

Re: Vehicles spotted in your neighborhood

Yeah sad is right Nurb, I can only think of Ferris Buellers Day Off the way Cameron's dad kept his Ferrari Dino in a glass encased garage. That's the only way I'd keep a Mclaren. That car is beautiful, it is truly like a formula one car for the street.

Re: Vehicles spotted in your neighborhood

Saw this about 2001 on the street in Palo Alto and a friend happened to snap a few shots. Kind of akin to burning a pile of cash in front of a homeless person. The bird shit and leaves in the carbon fiber intake really drive the message home. Probably belonged to Ellison, but then again It is Palo A...

Re: should I really take the step and go to ACCD?

I have always been of the opinion that if you have the passion and talent for ID then It does not matter where you go to school. That being said I have been to ACCD and they have some very talented students from around the world attending their school. From a purely objective viewpoint they have ins...
