Switch your carrier from other product ID to footwear design

Thinking about possible change in J-O-B.
Anyone had switched general product design, specially electronics to footwear design?
What it takes to make the change (beside skills..).
And what are your recommendations?
Thanks for your input.

If I have a choice again, I would go to Pratt once more. I miss the school. Now working with bunch of Art Center people at design office, I realized that conceptual and perspective came from NYC schools really helped me differenciate from the others. They might be better than me for CAD, drawings an...

Skull and Bones

Last time I wrote in this forum was when I was a grad student at Pratt. Some time back, I have predicted "Goth" style could be the next important trend, and I remember so many people here were objective about it. But I am here today to tell those people that Goth style may not be the main stream, ye...

Let me tell you the truth dear, It's been almost two and half year at Pratt now, and this kind of complain is just another knick knack <to me>. I haven't seen the new chair person yet, and I have never heard anything in email about any meetings yet for us or for him. Just leave the guy alone and giv...

Don't worry too much. Thesis is meant to be difficult for everyone. It is good that you know what you like and don't like in your life, but don't just through away your three+ years of experience with ID. Make it interesting in your own way. Observe films and its industry and compare it to ID field....

School is what you make of it. Strongly agree with above. Even in Cooper Union, Yale, Columbia U or anyother famouse <art>schools, there are students who are slackers and failing their classes. ~I have seen failed students from those schools and they were just who they were. (all the negative comme...

This is the biggest concern for every graduates and current students now. From other post, it tells about our Economy and how over saturated this industry is. But I believe it goes pretty similar to any Art major. Getting a secure job doing Art means you must have better skills than other people. I ...

Samsung has many buildings and branches all over the Nation and in other countries as well. Not sure about SF Design Lab, but from what I heard, it is currently expanding in scale. Most of Senior Designers are not actually Koreans. They are selected from different backgrounds with strong skills. The...

Not only those aesthetic qualities but also it is depense on who makes it, how much it cost, who shows it, who buys it and how long it has been shown. Can it be a pop-star, Art that mimics Rock and Roll or this pop qualities last for the next century as "real art" that connects the dots? Fine Art to...

DESIGN SHOULD BE ART! LOOK UP THE DEFINITION OF ART! Yes and No. Not all design should be Art. Think about your next car, medical device, your furnitures and even your everyday clothings that are overly expressive and unlimited in its shape, function and colors. Can you live with or expect everyone...

Cow, you drive Supra and your mom has A3? cool... Thanks for so many great suggestions. These actually showed how Industrial Designers are thinking on "real purchasing" issues and not just designing items. So even 25k, I can't even get what I really want. It means I should get it in few years after ...
