UPDATED: vintage concept sketches

Paolo Martin’s artwork of the Pininfarina Ferrari Modulo concept shows how little the car evolved from paper to reality

Michel Boué sketches designs for the Renault 5, the car that defined the supermini class. He would not, sadly, live to see the launch of his creation, dying at the age of 35

Giorgetto Giugiaro’s final renderings for his seminal 1980 Fiat Panda, the car he still cites as his masterpiece… now this is a rendering! Even though it is an econo box (new at the time), it is lovingly yet realistically rendered.

What a poster boy of a car the Panda is. My brother still drives one like that.

Isn’t this rendering beautiful? Do you think people in this period (early 60’s maybe?) thought that the majority of new homes would be something like this?

There were some phenomenal sketches in the Stanley Kubick show at LACMA. A few highlights below. I put a lot more, and some images of models and props, here on Facebook for the likeying: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.527553313953986.1073741825.107741225935199&type=3

Have a look at “All The Sketches” via friend and fellow designer David Lewin: http://allthesketches.com/retro-awesome/#prettyPhoto Some great vintage sketch examples!

My coworker brought these to our attention today. There are several more to see through the link below. Some of them aren’t too far off.

ooo, hice! Thanks for sharing those!

Those were great Garrett.

This one’s my favorite. Too bad the date isn’t visible; I’m guessing 1942-5
You have to wonder if the “inventor” had ever been on skis. Graphically, I like the way the propeller arc obscures the text, bringing the image forward.

Love it (and that previous car you posted)! Very interesting to see vintage stuff outside of Europe/US. That flying fan car concept must have been repurposed by the George Foreman design team.

Not quite that old, but some fun sketches at any rate from the wonderful world of the Fifth Element.

Lol, that flying car would make dogs go crazy.

I have a weakness for Luigi Colani…

Some great images by Paul Bracq. This guy has quite the employment history. Some things get a bit ‘artsy’ but they are still great. Do a google image search for a ton more.

(Ripped some from his web page)

And a few more good ones. I love the scale that they used to make drawings. If you’ve never seen a full scale ortho in real life, they are amazing.
