We knew Portland had sophisticated and creative talent. We also knew that Portland lacked a support system that entrepreneurs and small to mid-sized businesses could tap into.
Until now, that is.
You might have a great idea that you manage to get linked to a Cool-Hunter site, but when the orders start pouring in, you’re scrambling to find a manufacturer, and tapping your uncle for start-up cash. We can help. And it doesn’t matter if you’re generating ideas from Portland or Hong Kong. The Center of Excellence is a broad system that spans the globe.
We draw together Portland’s deep creative culture to provide the infrastructure, access and the resource network required to jumpstart your new or existing venture. Emerging businesses in the footwear, active wear, outdoor gear and cycling industries, to name a few, need look no further.

do you know these guys/company? I’ve never heard of them but looks pretty interesting. will check it out.

I came across this Russian site.

It has some vintage Adi + Nike along with some other brands

I found it quite interesting. Very basic site but it shows how little footwear has changed in the last 5+ years

only-sneakers.ru

Some good rendering examples here:

Good call!

I just came accross this execllent site today.

I especially like the info about the ARS Sutoria footwear school in Milan, on his blog, I know of several ID-ers or designers with fashion degrees who took the footwear course here, I’ve heard it’s very good.

Bumping the thread to ad this video about the course I studied at DMU

Also I found this free footwear dictionary.

You guys have to check this out. Some really nice stuff. I love the last drawings.

Daniel Bailey and myself have recently started up Conceptkicks.com - ConceptKicks is an online magazine dedicated to all things footwear design. From sketches, renderings and samples to inspirational images and tutorials, we try to shine the spotlight on the many amazing footwear designers in the industry, as well as inspiring and helping the next ones up. With designer interviews and tutorials it is definitely a site to check out. As always comments are welcome. If you are interested in getting in touch you can contact me at mattdealmeida@yahoo.com

Hello all,

I have created some great videos based around footwear design on my website http://www.renderdemo.com.

I’m currently working on a new video tutorial “Creating Technical Packages” AKA: TECH PACKS. Everything you need to create a tech package so that a sample prototype can be made. It should be up by the end of this week. Check back soon.

Let me know if there are any other videos that you’d be interested in and I will look into creating some. Just shoot me an email.

Enjoy!
Mark

Dezeen does some very good selective reporting from the footwear industry:

The sleminars from SLEM footwear design school in the Netherlands are very future-forward and insightful!

I am wondering if anyone knows any good recent literature on the design specifically of running shoes, about materials, mechanical performance, testing procedures, ergonomics, future concepts and wearing comfort.
