Designer's websites

C’mon, now. His stuff may be “eco-friendly” but it is still “machined”. It is designed for mass production. Some fantastic work in there, but it is still intended for the masses, he is not an artisan creating one off “design”.

If you want to see some beautiful one off pieces, look at this guy:

I am about to enter the world of the web, currently deciding on a domain name.

i wanted my firstnamelastname.com, but it is already taken. i can get it with a hyphen in it, or have firstnamelastnamedesign or firstnamelastnamecreative, but not too sure which i should go for, or if i should choose something else entirely…

Which is more memorable to potential employers? Godaddy also suggested to buy the .net etc domains, is this worth doing?

I am australian, so thinking about the .com.au, but i will possibly be working overseas, and don’t want this to put people off…

Any suggestions would be great.

This guys does some interesting stuff…

AWESOME find Ross! I just spent the last 30 minutes oogling over his complete mastery of form.

Do you have any idea into his work process? It mentions this on his site “with a progressive digital approach developed during a Masters degree at the Rhode Island School of Design” but nothing more. I’m increasingly interested in observing how designers work.

I just saw your reply. I actually know quite a bit about his process. I worked with him on my master’s project a few years ago. He is a pretty awesome and interesting guy. He way very helpful in critiquing my work and providing guidance.

He finds his inspiration in a lot of natural objects. Take the surface of a rock for example. He looks at the way various surfaces flow into one another. other things are how trees, bones, fruits, etc flow.

He prototypes a lot of his pieces using a 5 axis cnc router. he uses a foam base that is then hand laid with fiberglass and finished with standard automotive paints. A lot of times he will have to use a few pieces of foam that are glued together in order to get such complex forms.

I know he uses Rhino with the T-Splines plugin for his software. I would need to check some of my old notes, but he may use cinema 4d also.

If you want, check out my portfolio on coroflot and look under the project (b)ONE. It shows some of my process work using his methods.

Can’t believe these aren’t allready in here:

hello yo. - I won’t share how much time I spent clicking around to possibly proceed but it was more than a minute. Did you finally find the secret entrance?

I just rolled over the name and a menu popped up… didn’t work for you?

Also: a friend of mine’s, I love how the site captures his personality:

A really nice site that I came across today. Some of the photography in the spaces section is beautiful…

yes, Yoshioka is amazing. I love how he and Nendo just keep one-upping each other.
