Not sure if this fits the topic, but… here’s something I saw the other day in central Stockholm. Yellow Lambos are so 2006, but you could see everyone turning heads as it was going down the street because of how contradictory it was to put a ski box on a matte black Lambo. Oh and yeah - it had a big logo on the side of the car. I’m not sure what the brand was but I know I NEED it.
edit: did some googling, apparently it belongs to a skier Jon Olsson, and it’s not his first! I mean I’m not into skiing, but I’m currently watching him on youtube and have read 3 interviews. Is this how to build a brand?

This is a Nabisco aisle I saw in a grocery store. This was really cool. It took up one whole aisle in the store and was design to give a home kitchen feel. Notice the recipe boxes, refrigerator, and fake butcher block counter tops.
That is awesome. That is one hell of a way to promote your brand. Not sure what he does, but that is one way to get you brand noticed. A little pricy though.
Clever yes. But it isnt beautifully articulated in Guerlain’s typical fashion. If it didnt have the Guerlain written on it I would have thought it was a cheap Sephora lipstick despite the chrome. Its a bit gimmicky for such an established sophisticated luxury brand.
I don’t know if these really belong here, but I thought the branding and graphic designers in here would get a kick out of it. These are as the Thedieline.com say “unique, artfully designed fire extinguishers”.
Those are frick’n sweet. I would absolutely put a fire out with one of those. I think I would prefer the graphic treated extinguisher over the newly designed one that Arnell did a few years back.

Fashion over function. Cute idea … just not a good idea, IMO. Would you recognize these as fire extinguishers in an emergency? Why make their purpose ambiguous? I immediately thought of old Seltzer Bottles.
The above aside, these extinguishers are non-compliant. British Standard EN3 states that fire extinguishers in the United Kingdom as all throughout Europe are red (RAL 3000) and a band or circle of a second color covering at least 5% of the surface area of the extinguisher indicates the contents. Before 1997, the entire body of the fire extinguisher was color coded according to the type of extinguishing agent.
Fire safety is serous stuff. If you’re desperately searching for a fire extinguisher knowing what to look for helps a lot. Some things should be left alone. Although there is no official color requirement for fire extinguishers in the U.S., if you’re in a public space, and need a fire extinguisher, you are more than likely looking for RED or YELLOW.
Maybe at home, when you knowwhere it is stored … but even then, shrouding something of a serious nature in a whimsical package is not a good thing … especially if there are little ones in the house. Think safety; would you repackage bulk insecticide into a soft drink bottle? Not quite the correct analogy, but you get the idea. Kids have a tendency to get into anything that is attractive and looks like fun.
Packaging cosmetics in a fashionable way is the point. It is a fashionable product so I would think in some ways fashion would trump function.
As for the fire extinguishers, these are made by a French company called fire design, so I would imagine that they are legal in Europe. http://www.fire-design.fr/epages/270867.sf They are not intended to be used in a commercial setting and from what I can tell the design is meant to be left out in plain view so it is there when you need it. Example being strapped to a wall, on the counter, etc… Because of this they have played with the graphics and made them more appealing. I do not see anything wrong with this. It is in plain sight, it is the same shape, has the same function, and all of them even say FIRE on them. To me this is better than the other designer extinguishers out there that the shape has changed and you don’t even know how to use it.
I understand what you mean about keeping it red and iconic and recognizable and serious. But I prefer to a bit more whimsical and playful. I think we should treat more things like art. Survival of the fittest. If you cant figure out that its still a fire extinguisher I say let’m burn. (I’m joking by the way)
You are absolutely right about the kid comment. I know I would have immediately picked it up and used it. I remember as a kid having a 9 volt battery that kinda looked like candy and licking it and having that weird sensation tickle my tongue.
