Sending out a "Reminder/Summary" email?

Hey all. I've heard of some people sending out a Reminder or a Summary email to all their clients from the previous year, updating them on their current status, etc, trying to drum up some business - basically just keeping people in the loop and reaffirming relationships. Has anyone done this and does anyone have any advice?
