Originally I came across his work in art history in college (RISD art history is really good)... these picks came up when I google image searched his name. The Italian Futurist movement is pretty fascinating, also unintentionally kind of funny and tragic at the same time. Check it out.

Here's a link for a book of architectural renderings by Helmut Jacoby. His stuff is crazy cool.

found this online a couple years ago, but can't find the website anymore as searching fro anything Transformers related has become a little more involved these days.

okay, don't count this as a shameless plug, but there are some interesting vintage sketches, prototypes, and production items here:

Are these styles still appropriate for a student to use now-a-days?

a drawing is about communicating an idea. I think the style should be dependent on what communicates your concept the most efficiently (both in terms of time and impact).... I also am a bit old school in that I think it is good to be aware of the history of our profession (not just factually, but visually) and that knowing how to do it the old school way builds a certain sensitivity to the natural order of things.

The graphic design department at my school required students to hand set type and hand draw an ink fonts before they were allowed to use their computers to kern and what not... I think this built a formal sensitivity.
