Thanks Michael!

Here's my last final for design drawing 2, its an urban cycling Desert boots done on 24x36 mylar. I found that there wasn't a great urban cycling shoe for walking and cycling. Either the forefoot was too stiff for walking or too flexible for riding. The main feature is the strap that goes from the forefoot into the heel counter. The rider would tighten the strap before riding for a stiff forefoot, and then loosen it for walking.

Alrighty, I'm back again to dump some images. Took a few days to rest after the semester ended and now I'm trying to really boost my sketching skills after quickly realizing that my ability to sketch other proportions of cars is pretty lackluster..

Right now I'm splitting my time between proportion studies and my submission to the Mesh01 Pensole contest..

My concept is a marching band shoe. Right now performers train in expensive running/training shoes, and then for performances switch into a $40 shoe with a different heel to roll on for marching. I find this really bizarre, so I want to fix that by having a lightweight training shoe with a heel cap for marching that would be able to clip in to a performance dress shoe upper. Eliminating the difference in the way the shoe functions from practice to performance. Mature, militaristic in the front, and the important technology hidden in the back.

I feel like my design process is really scattered and find myself not knowing when I should go from finding an idea, to sketches, to renders, etc.. So I included some of my notes to show my thought process in chronological order.

Here's some more stuff for my Pensole submission..

Sketches in Chronological order. Line sketches I didn't think were worth rendering, a handful are just color blocked without any further development because I didn't like them, and the last sketches are ones I thought had potential.

And some really loose car volumes.

Congratz. Nice layout of your design and features.

A small tip, try to improve your handwriting. I mainly mean that some of your sentences are not completely straight, but are shifting. You could draw some light lines to guide you will writing. (I already saw you doing this in some of your drawings)

Thank you!

I'm definitely in the process of improving my handwriting, it has always been sloppy but I have printed off a few exercises and hope to have it nailed down ASAP.

Today was my first day at Pensole in Las Vegas, I was assigned to the outdoor category for Merrell. At the moment I'm pretty stumped what direction to take this. I feel like doing another hiking shoe is overkill, and I'm looking into some slightly younger activities to fit into their brand after noticing that they sponsored some windsurfing stuff.

Overall I'm pretty satisfied what I accomplished in 11 days, outdoor is way out of my comfort zone and I still have a lot to fix before FN Plaform in 15 days..

Done with all my Pensole stuff... Back and forth to Las Vegas during the semester is brutal!

Product Design 2... Class objective is to design a self checkout machine for big box retailers in 2030, think grocery self checkout. It's a 5 person group project, and we decided that the future of shopping and self checkout isn't going to be inside stores. Each week we present 20-30 feet long of wall space to the class based on the topics assigned. I Will update next week with more information..

I was trying to accomplish Andrew Kim's style, from Minimallyminimal.com.. And I didn't do too well, still struggling to find my stride with markers.. Here's his technique and sketches I want to mimic:

Really loving those illy and vaio sketches Aaron. Nice work! Hat is a great style.

Congrats in the Pensole experience. Things like that are invaluable and I'm sure you met some great students and instructors.

Thanks Michael! Unfortunately the illy and Vaio sketches are not mine, that was the style I was trying to accomplish :D those two pages are from Andrew Kim an art center grad.

I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity at Pensole with Dwayne and I hope to be picked for the world sneaker championship at Parsons this summer.

Concept: A self-service system where users could shop for their items inside a shared autonomous vehicle and then on their way to their destination could pull into a terminal that would 'plug' their items into the vehicle.

I need to add human scale and work on better 'thinking' sketches in the future.

Here's a question for the board that I've been struggling with recently in my Product Design 2 studio.

The design brief for this class is to create a self-checkout terminal for 2030 to be used by a big-box retailer. While considering the expansion of high-density urban growth in this time period, and the already increase of grocery delivery systems, my team and I decided that we would design a system outside of the retail store. Our concept has now taken the path of integrating a shopping experience into an autonomous vehicle infrastructure. Here are a few examples:

Use-case 1: Grocery shopping after work
- User gets off work
- User orders individual car with cargo space attachment
- User enters car and makes shopping order via self-service kiosk inside the vehicle
- Vehicle stops at desired store terminal and has purchased items 'plugged' into cargo space of vehicle
- Vehicle leaves and takes user home

- Use-case 2: Picnic with friends
- Users need grocery items for picnic at the park
- Users create virtual shopping list
- Users order individual autonomous vehicle with cargo space attachment and multi-passenger vehicle
- User enters individual vehicle and uploads shopping list via self-service terminal
- User is driven to big-box retailer terminal and items are 'plugged' into cargo space
- User is driven to park and meets up with friends

The only restriction is that the product can't be handheld, and can't be an app.

I'd love some input on what you guys think. My team and I have been struggling with this entire project due to questioning why this sort of system would be a terminal or kiosk in the year 2030 rather than a mobile device or app.

And on a sketching side note, I'd love some feedback how I can communicate something like this product more successfully, being that it is attached and located into a vehicle interior.

Thanks,
Aaron
